Do dealers not listing prices shoot themselves in the foot?

I thought that was true for LS Dealer too. I have always seen a package deal on their web sites.

It depends on the dealer. RCO in Texas always seems to post package deals, but will immediately give you a price for just the machine via phone. The one local dealer posts actual prices for just the tractor, and lists some of their implements separately. I'm not sure if the other local dealer posts anything anywhere....just haven't looked to find out.

Shop locally, go in person and ask. I am sure they receive many an email from tire kickers.

few points from the dealer side.

If we're getting paid co-op dollars, you can't advertise anything but list prices. Many vendors won't allow new prices online either, some people get around this or mask their pricing doing weird package deals or listing things as 'demo' or 'rental'.

There are very few tractors we can actually put a price on out on the lot. Zero turns you can, and we do some of this... but how would you price a BX Kubota? Tire choices change the price, a grill guard is extra, lot tractors are not ballasted, etc. There are so many variables and the machines sitting on the lot as they are will rarely fit a customers needs.

Its also tough as programs change quarterly, as seem to always become more complex. Buying a New Holland? Your price is different if you join the cattlemen's association!

You'd be surprised how hard it can be.

I can definitely understand this when dealing with new but if you were to put a used tractor with a loader on a web site or in the auto locator you would definitely have a better chance of me looking at it if the price was listed than if it wasn't.

I firmly believe that if someone selling a used tractor/car/truck does not put up a price then it must be either free, or they are ashamed of the unit and of their price. I pass over those ads.

Is this something new tractor dealers not listing prices? My last new tractor purchase (12 years ago) I shopped 4 different dealers and they all gave me prices really quickly. I know auto dealers are different and have all their tricks to get you to pay more but my tractor purchase was really easy and painless.

The problem here appears to be more that they dont have prices listed on their website or ad forcing you to contact them to get a price.

Oh I see. Don't a couple of the major tractor makers have a build it yourself feature on their website that prices what tractor and features you want? Should give you a starting point.

I agree. IMO, it should be allowable for a dealer to go to the OEM site, do a "build your own" with those features and list that as "MSRP with installed options is $XX,XXX, your price will vary based on applicable discounts and added options"

Listing prices on new tractors can be one thing, but not listing prices on used tractors or equipment is what bothers me.

I'm not so hung up not seeing a price in website or ad. What does p*ss me off is contacting a dealer via email, sharing exactly what I'm looking for, letting him know I've done my research and then asking for their best price but yet still getting the runaround from them. I don't need a dealer to help me figure out what I want/need - I've done all that legwork. I just need a dealer to tell me at what price they will sell me what I am specifically asking for. For my past experiences, those auto and tractor dealers that are willing to subscribe to this business approach have received all of my business. It's shocking to me how many dealers still refuse to do business in this more "modern" way and the sales they're missing out on.
