Sure sounds like pump failure to me. good luck. interested in hearing the fix.

You may have a suction leak, and if you have a sump screen, it might need cleaning.

Check your suction hose or line and tighten all fittings.

In order for the pump to pump instantly, the IN port of the pump has to be flooded.

Check your tank breather tube. If it is stopped up, you may have a vacuum in the tank.

Looks like the pump has been replaced at some point. Part number on it has a R at the end I think that means remanufactured. If the pump is failing should there be some other signs like lack of power? Once I get it working every thing seems to work fine (loader lifts a full 7ft bucket with no problem).

I have not been able to figure out if there is a sump screen. I looked in the manual and online a little with no luck. I dont see any leaks on suction line. Really the only leaks on the system is the valve for the loader and it only makes like a quarter size dot on the floor after sitting for a while.

I did clean the breather above the rear axle when I changed fluids hoping that may have been it. Did not seem to help. Is there another one somewhere else?

1. Is the picture you took showing the bottom of the tractor? In other word is the pump mounted below the oil level? The oil level is usually just above the rear axle shaft height.
2. Is part #1 where you checked the oil level?

3. Will the pump lose its prime if you remove the dipstick?

Your suction screen is part #9. There are several variants of your tractor. If you search for element on the NH parts site you should be able to find the correct suction screen.

This happened to another member awhile back. Maybe you could contact him?

Seems like your pump is losing prime whenever you shut it off,.For some reason it can't build enough pressure to push the air past the relief valve until you bleed it a little.

Thanks for all the input. I have not had a chance to work on the tractor latly.
The pump is on front of the motor and above the fluid level.
The tractor is the 16 x16 power shuttle transmission

If you had a suction leak, you would not see it.

You would see the result of the air leak as the suction would pull air into the fluid and it would eventually end up in the tank.

Look in the tank for bubbles.

It looks like I am getting Hydraulic fluid in the motor. Has Any one pulled one of these pumps off? Is it just a mater of undoing the lines and unbolting it?

I did replace the element filter if any one needs the wix number it is D44A10GAV half the price of the new Holland one. Auto part store will think you are crazy when you give them the number.

I think you found your problem, leaking seal in pump shaft. When running, pumping oil some leaks past the seal and into engine oil. When engine is off air leaks past the seal from engine case into the hydraulic line letting oil drain back to reservoir.
