John Deere 6105 D or 6115 D

AKfish,

A couple of you have asked me about hydraulics....I'm not very knowledgeable about hydraulics at all. What should I be looking for in terms of hydraulics? I run a 15' batwing, 21' disc, 7' tiller, 4 row planter, and 16' cultimulcher primarily. We have several cutters but none will require anything the 15' doesn't. What should I be looking for in terms of hydraulics?

The biggest disadvantage that I can see with these models is the limited transmissions. 9 forward gears is all.

Thanks,
VHORN4

Do the outer spindles on the batwing flip up independently or both together? Of course, that's either one hyd SCV or two; depending on how the mower works. IIRC, 2 rear mount SCV's was all that was available on the "early" 6D's. If that's all you'll ever want or need, OK.

Sometimes, a new tractor brings on new implements, too! 'Course it can also help with resale or trade down the road as well if there's more hydraulic couplers.

Redneckracin' mentioned pump output as well. Very noticeable working a loader compared to an M or the R models.

I'm pretty sure that JD recognizes where the 6D is a bit "short" compared to the rest of the market. As such, I believe JD has changed the transmission options on the 2015 models to 12x12 and/or 24x24 PowerReverser. And, I think you can get up to 6 SCV's, too.

Maybe abit of background history... I made 3 trips down to the lower 48 states this past year. Rolled around the upper Midwest for about 2 months.

Visited dealerships in Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota. There were a number of new or very low hour 6D's around. And CHEAP! Without loaders, they were what I paid for my 5075M or less!!

Hard to believe... So, I just started visiting (I was dealing on balers and grapples) with the salesmen and asking why those D's were so "reasonable". That's when I heard about the tranny-hyd shortcoming's.

AK,

I know the 6105 D and 6115 D in 2014 had multiple hydraulics available. I almost purchased a used one that had 3 hydraulic ports on the back. I presume you could get more hydraulic hook ups if ordered. The extra one was an optional cost too. They have the power reverser transmissions as well.

The real limiting factor is the 9 speed transmission. I don't believe they could even be ordered with a different transmission, but I'm not 100% sure of that. I also don't understand the hydraulics well enough to understand hydraulic oil pump rates. I'm sure they're not as high outputs as the higher priced 7000 series, but I don't know enough to know what is needed. Given my use I don't think that factor would hurt me much, but it might limit something you could do with the tractor. The reason this series is attractive to me is the size, weight, and cost. The D series is about the same cost as the 5000 series M tractors. The 5000 Series tractors don't come with a 1000 PTO though, and they do not weigh as much either. They say they're great tractors, but I can't use it because of those limitations. If money wasn't an issue I'd buy a M or R series but the cost is $15,000-30,000 more for electronics, nicer cab, and better transmission options. I just can't justify that extra expensive for mowing and pulling a disc a little.

Get a smaller disk if the new tractor won't pull it well enough for you. Don't worry it to death. ;)

The 6D's are a whole lotta tractor for the money! And they'll outperform the 5M in every chore you want to tackle except movin' in and around tight quarters. That's why I could not really understand the pricing and/or the reason guys were bringing back to the dealer after just a few hours.

'Nuff there.

Still stand on that Deere has revamped the new 6D's.

AK,

I looked at the JD marketing materials and you're right about 2015 6 series D tractors. They're coming out with a standard 12/12 transmission with an optional 24/24. That will likely remove some of the folks concerns with that tractor. I don't know the price differences though....

What I was mentioning about the hydraulics was that I thought the 6d's still came with just two scv's. I think the M and R series tractors have an optional higher flow hydraulic pump. Sometimes this is overlooked or not even a concern but i figured it was worth mentioning. I also think that the D/E tractors have a little bit shorter wheelbase but I don't think it was a huge difference. IMO, a longer wheel base rides and pulls better. I keep toying with the idea of a 6D or a 5M for my needs. I would like to get closer to the 100 hp on the pto. These new tractors are rated at the flywheel which is just about a useless number in a tractor.

That's what I remembered too - just 2 SCV's at the rear. And the pump flow is nearly identical to the higher Hp 5000 tractors.

X2 here on the longer wheelbase. Much better ride across the pasture hauling round bales!

But... You can get EVERY bell and whistle on a 5000M for about the same $$ as a pretty plain, Jane 6000D. Oh yeah, I don't think you could get the EH 3pt hitch or the rear fender controls on the D, either.

we run a 2013 6105D to pull a 567 jd baler.and it pulls the baler with ease.being a 4x4 id say its just about equal in hp with the 4440.we have a big heavy athens plowing disk that we used to pull with a 85hp ford 7700.id love to see what the 6105D would pull it.the 6105D of ours only has less than 30hrs on it.buts that because it only pulls the baler.

Bull, do you have any additional weight on it? What about radials?
