Google Earth Pro is now free

I just went to GE to check out the street I lived on from 1953-1967 and the house my Dad built along with about 10 others got tore down and chicken coops put up.

You can go back in history and see if they were still there several years back.

Thanks MossR. I did that in the overhead view and they were there in 2009. I can't seem to get the time slider to come up in 'street view'. But that is okay. I was back there in 2005 and have the look of the place committed to memory. Besides that, I still have some pictures of the house and property. It does kinda P me off that some developer would take a down a 60 year old brick and block single family house to put up a semi-detached 4 plex.

I can't seem to navigate to any of "my places"
I thought if you double click on them, google earth would automatically navigate there.

I'll wait a bit for others here to do the beta testing since I have no compelling need for this upgrade.
Couple issues I'm interested in: will it overwrite the existing install and will it wipe out pinned locations (not the stuff that accumulates in the sidebar when you search, but the actual push pins that you name).

I upgraded yesterday morning about 6am - very fast at that hour.

All of my previous pins are there.

You can save your placemarks by opening the Places side bar, highlighting the Placemarks, and right mouse click to Save Place As.



You can open the file, if the placemarks get erased by File-Open

i think Pro allows you to slide the aireal photo way back in time and i dont think you could do that on the free version?

No, it was available in the free version, I used to use it all the time.

I did notice that GEP updated the imagery. My place used to be 12/13 dated, but then went back to 2012; with Pro it's back to the 12/13 image. Great!

Is this an update to google earth or do you delete google earth after you upload the Pro.
