Impact screw drivers?

What they could have done for this test is to scale the number of screws driven by the battery pack capacity, to give a decent comparison and not give the larger packs an unfair advantage. For something like a battery back rated in amp hours, that is an easy way to normalize the results.

Yeah, I do that too. Having a dedicated tool, for each job, sure beats changing blades, and bits, all day. Plus, if in my haste, if I can't find one, I grab another.

I just started giving the original "blue" ones, away. All of them, except the circular saw, (which I severely abused), still worked.

The latest versions of the Ryobi tools have many improvements, like lights, and anti-vibe handles. They are much closer to "real" tools, than they were originally.

The ones i had that toasted were the old blue ones.

Milwaukee is actually up to 5.0 AH batteries now for the M18 tools

My circular saw could use a 5ah, or perhaps more sometimes.

I am more that happy with a 2ah on my impact, and my drill most of the time.

Oh man I want some 5.0's. With new brushless circular saw too! :D

I have the 4.0XC's and they are good. The reviews say the 5.0 is even better and last way longer.

Now what I find interesting is that ALL the batteries are supposed to operate in most all the tools, run time being the main factor the power is supposed to be the same??? Read the specs on like the Milwaukee 2607 hammer drill they list a higher max torque value with XC battery than with the smaller compacts

I played around a bit and slapped a compact battery on my Fuel grinder and could tell the power difference than with using a 4.0XC. It was fully charged battery but the no load rpm was fluctuating up and down some .

Went to Home Depot the other day to purchase a Ryobi charger. Two years ago, I left the charger plugged in outside, under the elements. When the rain came down so suddenly, I did not realize fast enough that my charger was still out... When I got to it, it was too late. That thing leterally blew up in my face. As my Ryobi 18v impact driver had already seen a zillion screws, I made the mistake to purchase a new "Mastercraft" driver. First a 14v, then a 18v. Not a good move... So, I got the new charger, and got my two 18v lithium-ion Ryobi batteries charged up, after two years gathering dust. Took about one hour for each of them to get fully charged.
I am now back in business with a tool that has given me great satisfaction, and at a very low original purchase price. Of course, the newer drivers are lighter, more efficient(brushless) and smaller, which makes them desirable...:D

My 1/2 air impact gun isn't loud enough to wear hearing protection and that is much louder than my Panasonic impact driver. I do, however, wear hearing protection running grinders, chop saws, metal saws, air hammers, air chisels, power planer, table saws, live bands, and so forth.

Here is a round-up comparison of the latest round of impact drivers.

18V Cordless Lithium-ion Impact Driver Round Up | Pro Tool Reviews

I looked briefly, and didn't find one, but I'd love to see a comparison of the 20V models out now. I use the 18V DeWalt hammer drill and impact drivers we have at work a lot, but definitely prefer my 20V models....a bit smaller, lighter, and more power. I can't compare run times because we don't use them long enough at work to run them dead, or even close.

The dewalt "20v Max*" are still 18v cells which is misleading at best. *maximum initial battery voltage (measured without a working load) is 20 volts. Nominal voltage is 18 taken off the fine print on my DCG412B box

The Ryobi's work fine, and if the rest tested better. I would not worry about which has the most power. Because they all are apparently pretty good.

Pick a budget, and pick a color.
