Star Trek was a show really ahead of the times when it was originally broadcast. Lots of good messages in that series.

My wife and I decided to rewatch the original series recently. We watched all of it, and in the process I got interested in the historical context of the themes that the show featured.

That show was years ahead of its time and took on countless controversial subjects like women's rights, racial equality, wealth disparity, militarism, gender identity, religious tolerance, zealotry, etc.

Leonard Nimoy was a good man and will be missed.

Sad news. I see this as a pointed reflection on how "my era" is getting old.

I agree with the other comments made about Star Trek being ahead of its time. Look at how many of the things they'd featured in the original and subsequent spin offs that have come true.

I used to race home after school on my motorcycle to watch the 3:30 reruns on tv, before I had to be at work at 5. This was around 1975-76.

I could usually get home by 3:35. Just after the first commercial break.

RIP Leonard. I really enjoyed your body of work. Even the narratives way back in the day.

The show did have an effect on us. Those first nextel phones with the flip lids looked and sounded an awful lot like a communicator.

Although I've never dressed up or went to a convention, as kids we played Star Trek all the time, and I even have the blue prints to that starship as well as an original Star Fleet complete technical manual, produced in 1975 (which I'm certain could be worth a pretty penny to someone lol).

That show meant a lot to me as a kid watching it, and I'll miss Mr. Spock.

Looking at the life of Leanord Nimoy, he did seem to be a remarkable, intelligent, artistic man, more than just a actor on a decent TV show from years ago.

I'm not so sure what can be said of William Shatner:laughing:

My boys get a huge kick out of some of the original star treck christmas tree ornaments my mom bought years ago.
