Next time I am around one of the nicer cookware stores I think I will ask about it.

I don't think you'll see them in even the nicer cookware stores yet, at least not the immersion stick heaters. There is a company that sells a complete waterbath unit via Costco for about $300 but that thing is bulky and it really isn't hard to just use anything from a plastic pail to a stock pot with the immersion stick. I really wasn't planning to get one just yet but went to look at the Anova site and found a $50 coupon so just spent $129 for their new Precision model. Cannot beat that price considering that just a few years ago you'd need to shell out over a grand to get set up with sous vide.

Here is a video from Anova showing the device and explaining basics of sous vide cooking. Anova Culinary | Anova Precision Cooker

Has anyone here tried sous vide cooking yet?

I was reading about that last year... even though I know how it works, I still can't get past the wrong idea that I'd be boiling a steak! hahahaha

My first reaction exactly! Think of it rather as stewing at lowest effective temperature followed by a nice sear.

Well, you make a great salesman. I got reading about it, and it sounds easy and awesome! I'm ordering one now, but I can't find the coupon you found. Do you mind sharing where you saw that?

Try this: http://community.anovaculinary.com/discussion/506/todays-5get50-discount-code-is

I had posted a question a few weeks ago about pros and cons of the two models. After a while the administrator posted that link in the thread. I saw that other people also got the same 50$ discount but I don't know exactly how it works as the main website just has the $25 coupon. If it doesn't work, try joining the community discussion site and send a note to Jordan who is the admin rep that monitors the site.

Edit: more info. I clicked on the link above and it just took me to the discussion about the discount. Basically 1) join the discussion group 2) be one of the first five people each day to use the appropriate code and you'll get the $50 discount. I think anyone can get the $25 coupon.

Here is the text from Jordan that explains it.
Hi Anovies!

Since all of you are so awesome, we want to offer a $50 discount toward your next order in the Anova store - woohoo! Starting today (3/6) and continuing on each day moving forward, we’ll be releasing 5 coupon codes for $50 dollars off any unit from the Anova Culinary store exclusively for members of our community forum. The code will be published at a random time throughout the day, so be sure to check back often.

Once the first five lucky community members have snagged the code from here and used it to purchase their product of choice, the code will deactivate, but don't worry! There will be another code posted the next day so you have another chance, and then another the next day, and so on...it never ends!

If you're one of the first to get to checkout with the code on any given day, please feel free to comment on this post to let us all know!

COUPON CODE OF THE DAY (Monday, March 16th):
5GET50MARCHMADNESS

Copy the code above then purchase your device of choice HERE!

Thank all of you for being such an amazing community - we appreciate your support and we're excited to share the sous vide experience together.

Thanks, IT. Being too lazy and impatient,, I decided to just take the $25 and order. I've been reading a bunch about sv cooking this morning, and I can hardly wait to get it now!

Kind of rushed to get this together with St. Patrick's day tomorrow but here it is anyway. If I were to do it again... 1. I would cook the cabbage more either before rolling or during the oven phase. 2. Make the sauce milder or even use plain old French's prepared mustard. 3. Try leaving the potatoes out of the rolls and putting them on the plate (you have to have potatoes!)
