In Texas the regular drivers license is good for 6 years and may be renewed online or by telephone, but at least every second renewal must be done in person so they make a new picture and see if you can read the eye chart. Between the ages of 79-84, you must renew in person. 85 and older must renew in person and the license is only good for 2 years instead of 6.
Now regular, periodic testing sounds like a good idea, but how much more are we willing to pay for a license and/or more taxes. The DPS already has long lines in many places, so to hire more people to do the testing costs money from somewhere.
I'm 75 and I'd be more than willing to take a written and/or driving test if it didn't cost more or have to stand in line too long to do it.:laughing:
