He won't be remorseless for long... He would have better off killing somebody.

You would think people would get a clue eventually. It takes a lot of ego, self-importance, to trespass and cut trees in a protected area for the sake of a view. I think jail time would fix some of that ego problem. After a year or two spent locked up with the rest of the idjits, he wouldn't feel so special maybe. It just might sink in that he is as dumb as his cellmates.

hmmm ... he's sorry .....

judge should say ..... 300,000.00 for the damages ... and whatever it takes to replant plus build a fence around the area ..... should add up to 1,000,00.00 as a reminder ....

The stories about these idiots reminded me of the idiot who poisoned the oaks at Auburn U. (AKA Clemson U. without the lake;)). He served jail time for "unlawful damage of an animal or crop facility" -- Auburn tree poisoner released from jail.

Ya he's an idiot and broke the law. He shouldn't get more punishment than someone that caused harm to another person.

So the 100 trees I removed from my property are worth millions??
I guess I should get a bank loan on the remaining 200.

It may have been a calculated risk on his part. Around here, people often get fined $10-50K for removing vegetation on waterfront property for the view. Used to be common to clear everything until the Chesapeake bay tributaries silted up, so now they enforce a 100' buffer from the water's edge where no clearing can happen (or very limited clearing for water access) to minimize erosion and sedimentation. Rich people push the limit because to them $50K is peanuts, especially if they just dropped $1 million on the property.

To me it's just about a selfish person who doesn't abide by the "social contract" that the rest of us who are law abiding and courteous do abide by. Trees are trees, not people, not animals, but what sort of a jerk is without a conscience? Anyhow, I just thought it was a pretty disappointing story about a jackass.

BTW, daves1708, I've cut down many hundreds of trees so I figure I'm up to about 4 mil. LOL
