Something to keep in mind that many of the Diesel fans are quoting numbers from 2006 and older vehicles. And still thinking that of diesel vs gasoline prices of the same era. Problem is it's 2015 .
The GN I'm lookin at will be b/w 20-24' abt 4k lbs leaving me 10k left to put on trailer.
That is what trailer brakes are for...![]()
Ok guys, gonna try to keep brand bashing out of this..... Wife says my '99 Chevy 1500 with 240k miles has got to go...
I'm looking for a gasser only, can't justify the diesel. I haul lots of feed/junk/utv/tractor to my land 120 miles away several times a year but drive 62 miles round trip to work daily so want something that safely handle 10k+ #s.
I can get a 6.0L Chevy 2500 for $1k less than a comparable equipped f150 ecoboost and it's a tried and true engine with none of the stuff (turbos, shifting from 8 to 4cyl, etc) but should I consider the new fangled twin turbo technology for the MPG when empty?
Gonna probably buy a GN 24' trailer next to haul the tractor and implements when needed.
If you are towing a GN correctly, you are looking at potentially 3500lb pin weight give or take a 1,000lbs. A half-ton truck is NOT going to like that very much. Especially considering braking will load that up even more. I don't care if the 4x2 EB regular cab is rated at 12k, the truck only weighs 5klbs. Talk about the tail wagging the dog!
Yeah, no thanks! I had a 1 ton diesel with a 14.5k gn that I loaded up to around 11,500lbs payload and that truck did not handle it well. Trailer brakes or not, it still worked that truck HARD and you were very aware that trailer was behind you. That truck also outweighs that lil half ton by over 2klbs. I pull the same load now with a 12klb international and I have to check the mirrors to make sure its still behind me! The best part is, I can hit the engine brake, and not even have to touch the trailer brakes when ever i feel like it.
