I appreciate all the comments made here. I have a lot of good info the think about. It may be significant that my insurance company is not too hip on the injections. I just found this out yesterday and I've got to talk to them and find out why. I imagine it is because they are an expensive, temporary thing.

I did not intend to imply that the injections wouldn't work. They helped me SOME, but not nearly enough or for long enough. But they certainly might work better or longer for your wife. And I do agree with trying the least invasive procedures first.
My choice of words may have been wrong but I did not take it that the injections would not work. I do appreciate your comments and I fully expect that eventually my wife will need surgury. In her case, she has so many other issues going on (heart) that we need to try every avenue. Anyway, so far so good, she just commented that while she can feel the "grinding", after one injection she is felling less pain.

I've had osteoarthritis in both knees for nearly 10 years. Had PT and took supplements but my range of motion was down to -6 to 95 degrees in the left knee.

Net result is that 6/15 I had bilateral knee replacement at New England Baptist, a premier orthopedic-only hospital. Brought from the hospital to Spaulding Rehab hospital 6/18 and came home 6/30. On 7/2 I graduated from crutches to a cane. Our house has a lot of stairs so I am up and down those, walking 1-4 miles a day and doing two hours of PT. Have an appointment with the surgeon 7/14 and he expects to clear me for driving at that timr.

My knees are bad. It might be genetic. My dad had knee surgery when he was 84 and never walked again. and his mother spent her last decade in a wheel chair. I take glucosamine condroition and It really helps me. I blame a case 580 hoe with foot swing for much of my knee troubles. and pushing the foot pedals on the old 40,s & fifties dozers didn't help. That why the backhoe I reciently bought has wobble sticks. And when I run my TD 14 I try and use the steering clutches and catch the load on a blade corner when turning. I don't press the brakes very hard. I would like a 15 C powershift dozer they dont have turning brakes its all in the two levers. but no more than I use one it wouldn't be worth the cost. Any road Im not going to quit walking . but no ten mile hikes or riding a bicycle for this old guy.

RSKY, are you on Medicare or still on a regular plan? Reason I ask is, is if you are on Medicare with an "advantage" plan for the supplement, you may want to look into the "F" plan. The "F" plan my wife is on is up to 154/month now but there is never a question and zero deductable or co-pay. For anyone who's co-pay's run 2 or 3k a year, you really need to explore the "F" plans. Especially since your upfront med costs are deductable.

Insurance company did not want me using the injection that the clinic used. So they sent their own to my doctor. I got my first injection Wednesday the 1st. Was actually having less than normal pain and 'catching' in the joint for the two weeks previous. The doctor giving the injection said it would be a month after I took the third one before I noticed any improvement. He was wrong, I have noticed a great improvement in just a few days.

Now if I just hadn't tried to pull up eight fence posts by hand!! I have pulled a muscle in my back. Was going to get a metal post puller but didn't want to take the time to go to town and buy it. Now I'm fighting back spasms and getting further and further behind.

Also check out the G plans, the only difference is the $147 annual deductible. And the monthly premium cost difference between the F and the G is usually considerable.. Also Physicians Mutual has their Innovative F. Which starts out with a deductible like a high deductible F, but after 4 years(depending on where you hit the cycle) changes into a full blown F without deductible while still paying the lower premium you started with like the high deductible F.

In my opinion the only advantage of "advantage" plans is the very low premium and if you can stay healthy. If you plan on ever getting sick, an advantage plan is not for you.

I am not actively in the business now, having returned back to the telecom world, but I used to help seniors try to understand this twisted web of Medicare.

While the government publishes and also has on line literature on how to understand Medicare, it is beyond most average seniors to understand the complexity.

k0ua, thanks for that info. I will be signing up this fall. You don't have to be a senior to not understand the plans. I went through this when I helped my mother.

Try to find a good agent you fully trust.

Anyone work at a desk? If you had knee replacement is it a problem when you go back to work? I've been considering a standing desk to switch off with.

Also trying to get my weight down. I weighed 225 in HS so I've set that as a goal. Weighed 247 today so 22 lbs to go.
