Yes sir, two digits!! it pined my thumb and first finger together!! At one point the fish was on there at the same time too!

Had to try to keep it from flopping around while I dug my pliers out of my tackle box to unhook him, all with my left hand.

Then I had to land the boat and drive 1/2 an hour to the ER where they cut them out... NOT one of my favorite days!

I'd post at the ER pics but its pretty bloody.. maybe too much to post.

You really need to carry the Texas first aid kit: 1 bottle of whiskey, wooden stick - to bite on. sharp knife, alcohol, 4X4 gauzes, sterri-strips, assorted bandaids.

Why didn't you tell them to just cut off the shanks and push them all the way through?

Probably some bones or tendons or something valuable in the way.

When I was a little kid, a big kid on the block always wanted to borrow our row-boat. The deal was he had to take me fishing with him if he wanted to boat. So one day I ask if I can borrow his casting rod. He says OK and hands it to me. We're both facing the right side of the boat, casting away. He's on my right at the back of the boat. I see a fish jump to my left off the bow. Without thinking, I swivel 90 degrees to my left and make a tremendous cast only to hear a CRACK and see my bobber flying off into space. I'm looking at it fly and can't figure out why no worm, hook, sinkers, etc... just bobber, then slack line floating down from the sky. I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around and see the worm wiggling around on his cheek, 6 inches of line and two sinkers. Uh-oh. I hooked him in the cheek! I thought he was going to kill me (he had a reputation as a bad kid). He pulled out his switch blade and handed it to me and had me cut the line off the hook and remove the worm. Then he reached inside his mouth and pulled out the hook from the inside! Ewww!!! :p We rowed over and retrieved the bobber and I rowed him back to shore. Doctor said no stitches. Just cleaned it up. We went fishing again the next day. :)

To keep on subject...
That lake had moderate weeks back then and was easy to row around the few patches that made it to the top. Today its overrun with coontail and hydrilla and you'd be lucky to find 50% open water. :(

I just bought this place back in December, it has two pretty decent spring fed ponds. They are nice and open although the top one has some vegetation where the spring creek runs in. After reading this I will be keeping a close eye on that kind of stuff!

Very nice thread, found this a few weeks ago and got to about page 15... Yesterday I had a little too much fun fishing in my own pond..

So I'm taking it easy this morning and finished reading it... Man thats some nasty stuff. Would copper sulfate work? It does good with algae and the like.

HOw did you do that? Generally its in one finger or face or leg? fish start flailing while you were trying to lip him?
