For those tractor owners who do not own a trailer, what does your dealer charge to transport your tractor to the shop for repairs? I know most are by the mile or by the hour and some may have a flat fee. I would just like to know what others are paying.

Thanks!

Dealer is about 20 miles away, pickup and return fee is $100.

New tractor or implement delivery is free.

North Georgia.

Thanks guys... Very reasonable! My dealer hit me with $255 transport charge and I am only 3 miles away (that's three miles... pretty much walking distance) I thought that was totally unreasonable, especially since he did not tell me ahead of time.

$225 is insane - you could have hired a local flat bed (roll back) tow truck drive to pick it up for less than that...

**** you could have put on your flashers and had the wife follow you with flasher for a 3 mile drive....

Tell me about it... I didn't ask when he was coming to get it because I assumed he would be fair on his charge. I purchased my tractor from this business when it was owned by someone else. The deal at the time was that there would be no charge to pick up and deliver because he was so close by. That's fine, I didn't expect the new owner to honor my agreement with the previous guy. But what I didn't expect was this.

Did I say $225? Sorry, it waas $255.

My mis-type on the $225...

Is that both ways?
Because he did not mention it upfront you may be able to negotiate a better price with him, especially at only 3 miles. **** give it a try, if he bows up at you - time to find a better dealer/maintenance place.

Look around, I found a local shop that will travel out to my place and do oil/hydro changes, plus grease all the equipment for less than your transport fee. I just park all the tractors in one location, so he can service them all at the same time. Unlike the local tractor dealer who take 2 weeks to get anything back to me, this guy is in and out on my schedule - after hours, as he runs a oil change shop... Last time he caught a hydraulic hose that was about to bust, and flagged it for me.... I missed it somehow.... anyway - save me from a bust in the field and the PITA of fixing it there, so I dropped a case of his favorite beverage in the front seat of his truck...

You need to find some guy like this and forget about that dealer....
Just my opinion - not trying to stir anything up, a great dealer/maintenance shop is hard to find...

Oh I got him to cut it in half. So I only ended up paying $127.50. But the thing that bothers me is that he tried to get it from me in the first place. So it was either a "scam" just to see if I would pay it, (knowing he would discount it anyway), or the $255 is in fact what he charges (which as you say is insane). When I baulked at the fee, he said something to the affect that he was "going to be a nice guy and split it with me." Either way, it left me with a bad feeling.
