Annoyed by dirt bikers?

Is it the sound of other people having fun that is so annoying?

Or just a general sense that since I don't/can't do it, no one should.

My self, I rode dirt bikes when I was young and can relate to the POSITIVE experience that the people are having. Would you rather they rob you to support a dope habit?

Pick your battles, try to appreciate whatever comes your way. Life should not suck.
I agree. I rode dirt bikes way back in the early 70's and we were all good kids just having good fun. It only lasted a couple of years before we moved on to cars.

There is a huge difference between dirt bikers having fun on their own property and dirt bikers destroying the property of others. I believe this is where the controversy lies.

Agreed, our whole family rode dirt bikes for years, but we rode on our own land or approved areas open to the public.

There are also liability concerns, I've seen people devastated by civil suits due to others who were injured on their property.

For me it's a liability issue having someone riding on my property. I rode from when I was 5 til 21,and you that have rode it's not when you wreck but how bad it is,cause it's going to happen sometime or another. I like the sound of a 4stoke over a 2 and the power also. It is very enjoyable to ride and glad to see the youngsters doing something besides what was said about the drugs or stealing, just need more education on respecting private property from the parents.

If parents want to furnish a dirt bike to their kids, or if older, one wants to ride a dirt bike - let them do it on their own property or on public land designated for that purpose.

Too often parents buy their kids dirt bikes, but have nowhere to ride other than on other's property. And that is not right. Some people even go further and deliberately set out to destroy the property of others, or to harass them for other reasons.

As a father with children that wanted dirt bikes, I did not permit either situation. The source of the problem in my view is that parents that let their kids ride just anywhere they want is that they themselves don't want to be bothered with the time and effort to TAKE them to a proper riding area. Parents too often just want a baby sitter, and sending their kids out to ride their motorcycles and/or 4-wheelers is an easy out.

The source of the problem in not in the misbehavior of the youngsters, but in the lack of parenting. I for one, encourage kids to ride bikes and participate in any other sport they enjoy. I myself am/was a biker. Along with that label comes the responsibility for respecting the rights and property of others. If you can't do both, i.e. ride and respect, you can't do either.

The danger with riding on other's people's property is you never know if there's old equipment, like say a old sickle bar that accidently fell off a truck and ended up buried straight up with only the top inch or two exposed right across the trail.

100%+. I don't know why people seem to feel entitled to do whatever they want on other people's property. If you want the property, buy it. Otherwise, stay off. Simple.

This is the real issue. If it ain't yours...

My neighbors feel entitled to use my property for their pleasure. One kid would throw a limb across the electic fence and ride his ATV across my pasture to a pond and in the process letting some horses escape. Visited his parents who said they did not see any problem, he was not hurting anyone:mad:. So, I put a 5 strand barbwire fence up, now they call me bad neighbor when we meet in public:confused:.

Years back, in a sorta nearby county, a landowner was having problem with people riding ATV's on his land. He had put up no trespass signs, and I think talked to the people breaking the law, none of which worked. He put up a cable across where they were accessing the property....

One of the riders lost his head.

I don't know if there was ever a civil suit but there was no criminal charges filed the last I had heard.

Later,
Dan

Hmmmm....... The only way onto my property - other than cutting my barbed wire fences - is down my mile long driveway. I've met "uninvited guests" many time who will stop and park in my yard. If I look out and do not recognize these folks I will always go out with my loaded shotgun. You never know their intentions until you are able to talk to them. Most were lost - they said - and a few were looking to fish in my lake.

This happened quite often when we first moved here in '82 so I called the State Police and they came out and talked to me. They had no problem with my approach as long as I did not shoot anybody or shoot at anybody for the simple act of trespass. Breaking into my house or attempting to injure/endanger me or my family in any way is a different matter.

There is very visible - No Trespassing - sign posted on the gate at the entrance to my driveway - along with a sign indicating that it is a private driveway. Uninvited guests have to go thru that gate - drive down my mile long driveway - come to and thru a second gate with similar signs posted on that second gate and on about a quarter mile further into my yard. There is no question that these folks know full well what they are getting into.

You never get the complete story from a short video clip - I guess the final outcome will be decided in court in this case.
