I'm curious. Does the owners manual provide any info on regen?

It doesn't go into full detail but does talk about general regeneration process.
It goes into regen when soot levels exceed 60% or every 4 hours after last regen.
Can take up to 30-40 minutes to regen.
How to inhibit regen.
There is a full page on DPF (regen) dash lights and what each combination of lights means.

Got the tractor back, and will soon work it hard this week, so I'll let you guys know if the dealer fixes were sucessful. The dealer states they had a problen with and replaced the injector solenoid, grouding points that were over painted, and the 2 throttle position potentiometers were out of sync. They put it on a dyno before they brought it back and it did the regen and 50% downgraded performance, which caused them to investigate the throttle potentiometers. I sure hope they got it corrected, but I'm skeptical.:)

Sucess, the fixes made by the dealer worked, so glad to have my XR 4046C back. The dealer had a problen with and replaced the injector solenoid, fixed some grouding points that were over painted, and adjusted the 2 throttle position potentiometers that were out of sync.

The JD series 1 Tier IV at work is not a success. The persons operating the unit have near zero understanding of how equipment works. One of them was blowing snow at idle speed because she did not like the noise it made when reved up. The block heater is rarely plugged in and the tractor is used on short cycle stop/start duty cycles during the middle of re-gens. It rarely really warms up. One day somebody left it at slowest idle outside the shop on a bitter cold day with all the factory and auxiliary aftermarket lights turned on. I heard it begin to stutter as it began a running stall due to the battery going dead. Reved it to 1500rpm , the lights brightened but the engine sounded as if was labouring. It's been back to the dealer several times.

This is spot on I think. These new tractors with the Tier 4 equipment have to be run as the manufacturer specifies. But many don't ever read the owners manual or get trained on proper operation (dealer fault in some cases).

I've seen the posts where people think operating a tractor at near max RPMs uses excessive fuel/extra engine wear etc, etc. All of this is contrary to the manufacturers goals of low fuel consumption and meeting emission standards (good for all of us).

My opinion is, if people would read and head the manufactures guidance in the manual, Tier 4 would be transparent or at least minimally invasive.

Why can't they make something that can be operated in the manner you've done for 50 years? They are using the science they used on over the road vehicles on slow moving tractors, many of which are not operated at high rpms, like going down the highway. They need to come up with a better solution.
