They OFFERED a new tractor. I pay the dealer to go pick it up, I get all valves disassembled and put back together (seals???), and still in the MX line. I ACCEPTED their offer, 2 weeks ago, as they were not budging on getting an M series at reasonable cost.

Still NO TRACTOR after a month and grass seed season is passing quickly.

I don't think that I would be very inclined to pay the dealer to go pick it up. I had a dealer try to bill me almost $500 to pick up my tractor and haul it about 12 miles to his shop a couple years ago. I'm not very sympathetic toward dealers.

why would you have to pay the dealer to pick it up? as far as the valves go they were disassembled when they were put on your tractor wont be any different on this one.

Why not make some calls ABOVE the dealer level???

For future reference, when a diesel engine starts to run away, immediately cover/plug the air intake. It will cut right off no mater what else is the problem. Anything will do -- a rag, a hat, your t-shirt, etc. From the looks of it, the OP never even opened the hood.

S219 working is repair shop in military a Cat. diesel generator 100 kw had the throttle rod come loose and the engine went to full throttle quickly a man took old boot put over the air intake and it sucked it to the engine. a rag sock or shop cloth would do same. stop fuel flow best way

Did they ever figure out why it failed? I assume that there is a fuel shut off solenoid. If it was an injector issue shouldn't turning the key off stop it? If it was an oil issue then shutting the fuel off wouldn't of made a difference. Either you would of had to stall the engine or block the air intake.

Long before anyone sent me to diesel school, I'm working in a place where they repairs landing craft. I'm an electrician and the only other guy in this HUGE facility was an Army mechanic. We took to eating lunch together, and one day I'm coming around the corner with my lunch box and hear a terrible racket. The mechanic comes hauling around the corner and yells 'RUN George'

Then boom! 6-71 Detroit scatters to pieces! He explains run off to me, neat, as long as no one got hurt!

A friend in Gulf War 1 was a gen mechanic. Cat decides to run off, Cliff stuffs his field jacket in the intake, stops the run off, but ruins his jacket! You know the Army actually made him PAY for the jacket? Geeez.

Very sorry to hear about this issue. I really hope Kubota comes up with an answer for the problem. Agreed when you are in the seat, and the motor goes well above red line, your first thought is to evacuate the area! Safer as well, I'd hate to pick a diesel rod out of my teeth!

Yeah, something that big, you are definitely right. I think the rag trick only works up to a certain size. When the intake is big enough to suck in a small child, then you got to explore other options.

If the fuel rod is stuck open turning off the key makes no difference because the shut off solenoid isn't going to move it. I've had that experience. I had a semi deliver me lumber once and it started sucking oil from a damaged turbo and ran away. I jumped in stuck it in a gear and popped the clutch to stall it but not before the fan belt jumped of and destroyed the fan.
