Diesel Exhaust Burns Eyes

My 1972 Deere 820 tractor has been burning what smells like raw fuel. It burns my eyes when Im backing up and I can taste raw fuel. The tail pipe is down low for orchard use and Id like to leave it there. It just started doing this after an overhaul which did not include new injectors. Any help much apprectiated.

Were the new injectors pressure tested before installation????

Was the injector pump pressure increased by accident during the overhaul? If the injectors were good and not replaced as you say it sounds like the pressure was increased dumping too much fuel in the cylinders.

Is it a big job for me to decrease pressure and see if that fixes?

My guess is that the injection timing is off. There is not enough time for the fuel to burn before the exhaust valve opens. In addition the engine develops less power therefore the governor will governor overfuel the cylinders.

You'd have to check with your dealer as I'm not familiar with how yours is set up. Or it could be the injector timing as Ladia mentioned.

Pressure test injectors and double check IP timing

It's more than likely the pump, i had a 74 model identical to yours & that's what the problem was, i've been wrong before though.
