A 1964 VW bug, in 1965, is the only car I was ever in that turned over. It belonged to a cousin and he was driving; doing some little off road stunts. And in spite of the stories that were spread later, we had not been drinking.:laughing: It didn't hurt either of us, but it sure didn't do the little car any good.:laughing:

Yes. These were the Briggs and Stratton lock sets. If you did not lock the ignition switch you did not need a key at all to turn them. I think about 1962 or 1964 might have been the last of them. I know when locksets were put on the columns then all of this changed. But I know exactly what you are describing .

I don't remember that one. I do remember, though, occasionally thinking a VW would be a good idea for me. And all I had to go was go visit a dealer, drive one around the block, and that would cure me of even THINKING I might want one for a couple of years.
