Property line fence

Newbury, that is correct. If they were decent neighbors, I wouldn't care, but they are being dirty about it. First they extend their fence after I put my vinyl fence up. I think what really got me is when I yelled over to them to do something about their dogs barking and she told me to go to he**. They are just causing trouble now.

I did talk to the township and they told me that I would need to have 5 other people complain before I could file a complaint. There is not that many people that live close enough that could sign the complaint.

When I did put the first sections of fence up, there is a space of about 6" from the ground to the bottom of my fence and the neighbors had the guts to put wood against the bottom of my fence. I told them to take it off and they did, but that is just bold. They wanted to take down their wire fence and use my fence for their dogs. Why should I put the money out in the first place? If they would train their dogs, no one would have had to spend anything.

If they were decent about things, I wouldn't care, but they are trying to cause trouble.

We did buy a sonic sound device, but it didn't do any good.
IF you put up a fence with removable sections or gates and they decided to "use" your fence as the boundary you could occasionally remove a portion of the fence for "touch up painting" or repair
. Then maybe the dog problem would run off.

I did think about doing that, but am I hurting the aesthetics on my side doing that? Not sure if it is worth it or not, but that has been on the back of my mind. I was going to put in 3 foot in from the property line so I would have room to mow the grass and to store my garbage there. :)

I can't remove a section at a time. Once assembled, you can't remove a section.

You could put the fence 1’ off the ground. Low enough they wouldn’t see you unless they were lying down and looking, but high enough it wouldn’t hold them in. Sort of vindictive, but I like to fight fire with fire.

Making it sort of a "perimeter road" w/ trash storage sounds fine for summer, but what about when you have 6' of snow?

The dogs are rat terriers so the fence wouldn't need to be too high. The first sections I put up are about 6" from the ground which they could get under. As long as the neighbor don't try to block it, the dogs could get under it.

I知 of the opinion the line fences should ALWAYS be on the line.

I disagree with the above. In certain circumstances, especially this one, I would always put the fence that I put up and spent all my money on, on my property. It's my fence. A inch or two will do. He can take it down or do anything he wants to with the fence, because it's his and on his property.

When I installed a fence at my own expense, I stayed a couple inches on my side, and when I got to the corner pegs I put the corner post to the inside of the corner surveyed peg.

Perhaps our definitions of “property line” differ, but in my opinion, “on the line” means exactly that. The neighbor’s side of the fence should be right on the line, the rest of the fence being on “your” property. Basically, we’re saying the same thing. Except I wouldn't give up an inch to any neighbor, let alone a bad one.

I would set it back 6" at least, otherwise you can't ever repair it. As a matter of fact, it's pretty much impossible to build a fence On the property line. How do you do the work with out going on his property, which is entitled (as smartly should) to refuse you access too.

Edit: I don't mean that as an attack on you, but the neighbor would be smart to refuse access to a his neighbor (you) if your already beefing with them.

It’s not too difficult to work from one side, but I suppose all fences are a little different. I would think a short, straight run of privacy fence would be fairly easy to work from one side. I’m just not in favor of giving up land that you paid for, and continue to pay taxes on.

I am talking about surveyed and documented property with metal pegs driven at each corner and points where it changes direction. A couple inches would not be giving up much and when a string was pulled from one peg to the other, you could definitely see the fence was mine. But different situations may call for a different approach too.
