there seems to be approx an 8 inch pneumatic tube attached to the linkage something similar to the ones for hoods and hatches, is this the return mechanism ? mine just started sticking very dangerous . I wonder if this is the main energy to return the pedal to mid position . I have to call the dealer and see about the purpose and available part . I don't see any springs that can force this pedal to mid position , there are springs but adjusting them has little impact . Those pneumatic tubes fail on hoods all the time
. I am surprised no one has already looked at this tube .

My pedal sticks even without running, something in the linkage is wrong I am going to see about a new pneumatic tube . I wd 40 the whole thing no difference . There must be a purpose for this tube on the linkage .

It is very dangerous when it sticks, I was always surprised MF didn't recall to fix the problem correctly. I shorted my return spring and it helped, although not a perfect solution, dealer claims the newer tractor have something different done to the hydraulic transmission side to remedy the issue.

i believe the black tube you're referring to is a damper for slowing down the return, it maybe it is sticking too?

Yes that tube is just a dampener. It is merely filled with air that will make the pedal return to stop slowly. I have taken that off of mine before and it works fine but it will come to a stop pretty fast. As long as you train yourself to real ease the pedal slow with you foot I don't see what you even need it for. Disconnect one end of it and make sure it still moves freely. It will move fast one direction and slow the other like a screen door return spring

Yes the dealer says its a damper , they haven't changed one in 15 years . They recommend pb blaster on the pivot shaft . Tough place to get to . I tried wd 40 didn't help . I adjusted one spring but not much !/4 inch or so . It doesn't look like it has much it can do . I pulled on it hard but it didn't bring it back much . It sticks when the tractor is not running also . I guess I will try tightening the spring a lot , spray with pb blaster . It seemed to happen overnight or suddenly .I may remove damper to see if it has any affect . They said something about a plastic bushing on shaft so that it would not need greasing by design.

I don't think it should be sticky when **** off. Mine moves freely then. Could be a bad cable too?

Pb blasted all the pivot points and tightened the spring quite a bit with damper hanging free . Damper did not effect it much . Worked the pedals a lot and re pb blasted them its working now with a lot a tension on the spring . I guess the best thing would be to take the pivot points apart and polish then grease them . That could be a lot of work --right now I need to do some heavy work with this equipment . I will keep pb the joints and working on it by hand when its not running . Grease fittings should have been done originally .

Have you had any moisture up there? There is a rocker assembly up high in the middle. That rocker assembly has two rollers on it and if the bearings got bad on it might make it hard to work. Thinking about it there might only be one on it. One other thing I do not do it use moly grease. That black stuff will plug those grease ports up and get sticky

I'm glad to hear that some of you have been able to resolve the sticking pedals issue. My 1526 has a fairly bad case of this issue and while I've learned to work with it, I know that sooner or later it's going to get me into trouble. I'm going to crawl under there and see if I can make an adjustment or 2 and get this problem solved, hopefully before the snow flies.
