Found one thing I don't like about Mahindra

If you do not replace the cable terminals, you are wasting your money on a new battery. My 3016 terminal corroded completely apart. I replaced both positive and negative with clamp type terminals.

Reeltime

When I went to purchase mine it was loaded up on the trailer and ready for my truck to hook to it... "Bought the whole kit-and-caboodle; trailer included".

I drove another one on the lot to get acquainted with the controls before I left. Hopped in mine that was loaded to 'redistribute the load' on the trailer and - nothing....not even a click. Salesman made it right and pulled one from the tractor that I just demoed and installed on mine. Well it lasted 2 years, and it kicked the bucket as well. There was corrosion on the terminals as well. Winter and high compression engines will make a battery work hard; these batteries that come from the factory typically have low cranking amps to boot.

I didn't fuss too much because "if Mahindra was to skimp on quality, a battery is where I would want it"... Something destined to perish from age or use anyway. I sucked it up and bought a higher cranking amp battery from Napa and slobbed a ton of grease on the terminal ends, yes slobbed is the correct word; meaning that what little I had left on my fingers got wiped all over the top of the battery as if it were a rag.

A 'little grease' does not go a long way in preventing corrosion, but a Lot of grease will prevent any corrosion. I encapsulate every battery terminal with a ton of wheel bearing grease on all my vehicles as well. Stuff works like a charm!

Mahindra did not have a "recall" per se but they did warranty the battery and cabling from any damage. My dealer was even willing to grab my tractor back to repaint the area that got corroded. I used "Chassis Guard" first then painted up the battery box over that. I was a little out of warranty but the dealer held my hand on the battery anyway. There was a ton of these Exide batteries that had porosity at the posts. I'm wondering if Mahindra or whoever got a deal on a bunch of batteries of questionable construction back then.

Bought my tractor in May 2005. I replaced the original battery last month after nearly 10 1/2 years.

We have identical tractor as Mahindra (I think as M 3016) made by TYM. We bought it in 2004 and it still has original battery.

I think you mean by Mitsubishi. They call theirs which is identical to the 3016 (understandably since they made the 3016) an MT28. As I understand it, your tractor has a Kubota engine but my 3016 has a Mitsu. Tym does make their 4010 and 5010 tractors which are a bit larger tractor than the 3016..

yup the 3016 is a Mitsu.
