A heavy pistol that is single action ..... two things I don't prefer in a handgun.

I agree that most 1911s are heavy. That is why I picked the Defender. It has an alloy frame, much more comfortable to carry, compared with the Compact model. I don't understand the preference for double action. I can shoot more accurately with the single action. The 1911 can be safely carried cocked and locked, so the first shot is a accurate as the rest.

I dislike the trigger pull of a full double action boomer ....... that's why I carry a striker fire.

It is very sweet for a competition or target gun. I would not recommend a trigger pull that low for a carry gun.

Neither would I...too easy to let one fly before you're ready...

Personally I favor the Sig Sauer and Smith & Wesson models with external extractor, and the Sig P220 for carry.

When I got out of the Army I never wanted to see one again. I changed my mind about 15 years ago....

I would think an external extractor is a good idea. The conventional extractor can be a pia if not adjusted correctly. However, from what I have read on a couple of 1911 forums, apparently some external extractor designs are not reliable. The S&W design seems to be ok. Don't know about the Sig.
