You are comparing apples to oranges. The surburban has that much room behind the first row. Which one is rated to tow more? The surburban is rated to tow almost double. Who really cares about a side by side comparison? Most people don't want a minivan.

No, you’re changing the topic. No one ever mentioned towing but you. The claim was that the Suburban had more storage, more seating, and the same mileage as the minivan. He was asked to clarify, and I’d be curious myself.

Rumors have it that 2011, 12 and 13 Impalas are speed limited to 112mph, unless you got the LTZ model or police package, which had W rated tires, and the speed limiter was bumped to somewhere north of 150.

Michigan State Police tests in 2012 had a 2012 V6 Impala hit 150 and that was on... GADS! E85!!!

Here's a little chase that took place on the Turner Turnpike between OKC and Tulsa, not far from where I live. If I remember correctly, it was an 18 year old kid driving a 95 Impala SS at 150 mph., although they mistakenly call it a Cadillac at first. He was outrunning the TV News helicopter.

The surburban does have more storage, but not by much. The surburban can seat 9. The MPG is pretty close, and the surburban weighs 1000 more pounds, and has 100 more hp. For the storage numbers to mean anything we have to know how they were rated. The surburban numbers were with the seats installed and folded. The minivan in question didn't specify, so there were likely no seats installed.

When I worked in the ME about fifteen years ago they had RWD V8 Impalas ( rebadged Holdens ) that had no speed limiters. They had an absolutely insane top end. We would be driving at a steady 110 mph in our 4 cyl Rangers... lol... and they would flash their high beams at you when they were still a mile behind you. You had to move over immediately or get run over, they closed on you that fast.

I know the first Hellcat delivered to Colorado ended up wrapped around a tree about 2 hours after the guy drove it off the lot. This happened about a year ago, summer tires on a cold road, not good. I agree, too much power can be a bad thing but there are a lot of things to worry about in life, having too much power under the hood isn't one of them.

I used to chase the horsepower genie, but it was all about accelleration, not top speed. Where are
you gonna find the 3-4 miles of flat open highway to get up to top speed anyway? With no
cops, other vehicles, intersections, or debris, that is.

Well, I have driven for nearly an hour with the pedal to the metal on the Autobahn, but I was
too cheap to get a Merc or BMW at Avis. My crappy little Opel would only do an indicated 92MPH
or so.

Road race courses have been fun over the past 3+ decades, but I don't really want to take
street cars on them anymore. Not after I got hit by someone else at a club event. They
ARE a much safer way to actually USE the horsepower in your car, and to learn how to drive
at speed properly, and deal with spinouts, etc.

When I had my bike, I'd change the front sprocket for daily driving VS acceleration. I had two sprockets. The big one would let me hit 119 in 5th, but it would actually slow down in 6th. Didn't have the guts to hold speed in 6th. But it allowed me to cruise at a MUCH lower RPM. The smaller sprocket had two less teeth. I'd crank somewhere ridiculously over red-line in all 6 gears and was going 119 through the trap in the 1/4 mile in 6th gear. 11.98 was my best time. This was a 25 cubic inch engine. A '77 Yamaha RD400 two-stroke twin. Stupid fast for a little tiny bike.

This is why parents buy SUV's instead of minivans....

Then there's a bunch of rationalization to justify it.
