As silly as this may be. Here is how I tell the difference. 1 step or 2. My L 5240 has 1 step into the cab. Same as MX. That's a CUT. UT have 2. And huge GXs have 3...

BTW...has there ever been a "tractor" made that could not be called a "utility" tractor ???

words have multiple meanings. I was hoping to come to an agreement amount TBN'r about which CUTS in the grey area were CUTs vs UTs

I think the previous comment about front wheel size is probably the best way to tell the difference. 24" or bigger front rims are UTs, 16 and smaller CUTs. There are still quite a few in between.

I'm not familiar with either model etc...

Again, I just don't see designating any (certain) size tractor as a "UT"...all tractors are Utility Tractors...(IMO anyway)...

You make a good point about using something like the (front) tire size as a guideline...

One important thing I have realized (since becoming a tractor owner/operator)...is that overall weight/traction is more important than HP

I originally wanted a 20-25 HP tractor...what I found was 17HP B model K_ubota with everything else I wanted (4x4, gear driven, and a loader)...compromised a bit on HP with a B1700 and have never regretted it...even with loaded rears the only thing that it has ever lacked is weight/traction...and usually a bucket of gravel takes care of that issue but I hate putting the added strain on the front end...

That is pretty little for a big cut, and real light for a utility tractor.

I know one thing that my neighbors 1066 & 1468 are what I would call big MF'er's Lol. My L3540 looks like a preemie next to one of those.

You figure out how much tractor you need in terms of lifting/pulling/shoving and you go buy it. Obviously, trying put them into little groups and give them acronyms (initialism's, technically) won't work because there is no standard. An exercise in futility IMO.

I don't think that works. Some UTs have 2 steps on the cab model and one on the open station of the same model. Same frame size either way. Also by this definition the JD5000 series and the mf2600 series are CUTs. But then maybe you consider these CUTs. I don't.
