CETANE Boost additive for diesel

I use Power Service in the white bottle in winter for the anti-gel properties. The cetane boost is a bonus. Typically in Ontario the cetane numbers are minimum 40. My tractor prefers to run on 46-50, so a little boost is a plus.

Biodiesel, which is becoming more and more common at regular diesel pumps, also boosts Cetane level in diesel. While standard diesel has to meet a 40 cetane rating standard, a biodiesel blend pops that number to between 45-50 on its own. And given that many places are now selling biodiesel at 5-10% mixtures (B5-B10) commonly, the need for additional cetane is negated at no cost to the consumer. A win-win. Biodiesel of B20 pops the certain to above 50, and pure biodiesel alone reaches 55 cetane rating. Just about 100% of the 21,000 gallons of diesel I get in a year is between 5-10%. Usually 5% in winter and 10% in summer. That more than takes care of any lack of cetane in regular diesel. And it is included in the cost of the fuel at no extra charge.

I use Howse diesel treatment in my 6.0 Diesel, and fuel tank for teh tractor.

Never had any issues with either and the 6.0 is supposedly very temperamental.

Also keep a bottle of diesel 911 in teh garage just in case, it has saved teh day for a friend

If one is motivated to use a diesel fuel additive, the Schaeffer stuff I use has been a real good value and does a great job on all my diesels. Since I started using it a little over 2 years ago, I have not had any fuel filter issues in winter as before, even at -25F using basic diesel gotten at normal truck stops, which is not always spiked with #1 diesel as it should be in cold weather. The stuff is very cost effective, runs me about 1-2 cents per gallon of diesel fuel. I use their winter 137 ULSW and their summer 137 ND. Some of us that have Webasto in cab diesel fuel fired heaters for times that the semi trucks are shut down in cold weather, usually have some maintenance issues with them regarding diesel fuel. I am on the 4th winter with my current Webasto and it has not had any issues since using the Schaeffer products.

What do you plan on gaining by adding snake oil, lotions, potions and magical elixers to the fuel? If the stuff was required , the operator's manual would spec it.

I agree. I have never used any kind of additive. I have a diesel car, truck and tractor. Never had any kind of problems related to fuel.
