Do you ask your wife to find stuff for you?

Sometimes a different set of eyes are needed to find the obvious.

A friend lost a pair of glasses while plying catch with kids at camp. They were in his pocket at the time. They were lost in an area the size of a house with 3-4" grass. After me and two friends walked around a bit searching we went elbow to elbow back and forth and side to side at least three times so we were giving up.

My wife was walking past us and going to the shower house so I jokingly told my friends I would ask here because she would find it quickly. Sure enough, she found them with 15 seconds of looking. I rested my case.

Sometimes it pays to walk away, grab a coffee and come back to look. At work, working over an assembly line, I dropped a special nut, possibly 5/16 size and fell into 6 tote pans of other nuts and bolts of a similar size. I looked for 15 minutes and gave up. I remember thinking I would do just what I suggested. Stepped out, had a soda, came back and put my finger right on the nut.

The more frustrated I get, cause I cann,t find what I,m looking for, the blinder I get.
Glad I got an awesome wife that has a great memory, and can find all the stuff I,ve lost over the years.

Most women have great memories. They can constantly remember and bring up stuff you did wrong many years ago.... and rub your nose in it.... :)

So, you lost her, or misplaced her, or she's somewhere under your stuff?!

More along the lines of being diagnosed bipolar, refused treatment, left to other parts, and then committed suicide.

It worked in IT for over 20 years but when it comes to finding stuff on the Internet, my wife puts me to shame, hands down. She can find anything. As for organizing, I get overwhelmed looking at a big mess and trying to decide how to clean it up. She on the other hand, just does it. Baffles me. Course, in our relationship, I am the arms of the storm and she is the eye. I'm the chaos and she's the calm. It's worked amazingly well over the years. I may be the one to create all the excitement but I often wonder why she's stayed with me through all of it - heh.

I always tell my wife,"The only reason you keep me around,is,to find your stuff".

I read an article recently about human navigation. IIRC, men used direction and distance and women used landmarks.

Man: "Go three miles north, then turn west."

Woman: "Go to the split rock, then turn left."

I wonder if this difference applies to finding things.

I cant understand folks that just leave everything piled anywhere/everywhere. I believe in the old saying "A place for everything and everything in it's place". Still I have some trouble finding "the place" occasionally. I hate to work on anything at my brother in laws place because he has nothing organized and therefore cant find anything. His wrenches are in a sack or box, his drill bits in a jar or two, stuff laying all over his work table so there is no room to use it to work on something.
My shop may be a little cramped but I know where my tools are enough so that I can tell anyone exactly where to look to find something. I clean up everything and replace the tools after a job (sometimes too quickly before the job is finished), clean off the work table, sweep up the floor and push the work table back against the wall where it is out of the way. I blow out all the dust and dirt in the shop with the leaf blower at least weekly so if I have to lay down on the floor, I can do so without getting dirty.

Does it sound like I may have a slight OCD issue? I think much of it is because of my CRS syndrome so that if I don't put things back exactly where they came from, then I cant remember where they are later. But by repeatedly returning them to the same spot and having everything organized as much as possible, then I only have to look for the stuff that I don't use often. If I don't put things in their place I will spend much time looking for them later if needed. Of course when I finally find something that I have been looking for for 30 minutes, then I remember leaving it there.

No! I once wrote Tabasco sauce on her shopping list but she bought Texaspet... not the same!

The well-meaning woman in my life just likes to tidy up my messes putting totally unrelated things away together. When I ask her if she has seen something, she doesn't have a clue because she didn't know (or care) what she was putting away. As long as it's out of sight.

EDIT: Got me to thinking. No amount of trying t expain "aggregation" has helped. Maybe putting her shampoo in the fridge, next to the pickles, might help make the point.
