Tractor
JD compact 790 yr 2006
Tractor was running great, no problems until last week. won't start- new battery, terminals, and fuses all replaced. No battery indicator light showing. Has head lights and oil light lights up when you turn the key, but nothing else. Whats my next step?
:confused2:

Hi Brandy,

I'm no expert in the things too technical, but bet I've done all the easy mistakes! Has the gear shift been pushed out of neutral? Is your PTO switch in the on position? Any other safety add-ons in a false positive state?

Good Luck.

Frank

Have checked all of those things, still will not turn over. Battery indicator light does not show battery, however tested new battery and it has full charge.

Well check all bat and ignition wires and connections.Don't look at them take them off and clean them.

Not familiar with JD but you might look for a (blown) fusible link...possibly near the alternator...

Well, I thought I had it. Back to square one- did a quick crank and now nothing- no lights either. :(

I am betting on a safety switch somewhere, even if you think you checked them all (there can be as many as 5-6 on modern tractors). It is by far the most common cause of "can't start my new to me used tractor" posts on TBN.

Either that or dirty Batt connection

All viable suggestions...might double check the main ground on the tractor frame...also a cold sticky relay on the original symptoms...

Good Luck...
