Re: Fiberglass truck caps,Leer & ARE ??

Have you considered a "back flip". My new 2500 came with a 4 piece and really like it. Aluminum and I can have full access to my bed in seconds. It can be secured folded in the upward position so i can load a 4wheeler and It doubles as rear window protection. I had not seen one in action before but have been happy with it.

We looked at bak flip and a few others. With the snow and ice we get here the Tri-folds are out consideration now.In a earlier post that I made we were looking at the pull covers but figured the fiberglass caps are now the way to go.

Re: Fiberglass truck caps,Leer & ARE ??

Are you referring to a cap in the sense of a fiberglass tonneau cover or the traditional cap?...My neighbor has an ARE
that is color matched and it is super high quality, actually makes that 9" lifted monster look kinda like an SUV..I've had Leers in the past and they were problem free.

I am referring to the traditional Cap & not the tonneau cover.Had a leer XL100 on my previous 2011 ford F250 that was ok but the ARE seems to be better made IMHO.

From looking at my neighbors I think you're spot on with the ARE quality...They are very nice. They nailed the color perfectly and on a silver truck that isn't easy. His is almost sold tinted glass running down the side with the front molded to the cab contour..Very sharp.

2 ARE brand caps to date. Liked them both. Used on Tacomas.

I have had an A.R.E. cap on my 2005 Tundra for 11 years now and have been very pleased with my purchase. I don't know whether a fold-down front window is standard or optional on the models you are considering, but it is worth springing for.

Bird initiated a thread a few months back in which he requested input on cap brands. I haven't been able to locate that thread, but I don't recall any negative comments about A.R.E. I seem to recall that there was a negative comment about Leer, but I can't remember the reason.

BTW, congratulations on your new truck.

Steve

I found Bird's thread -- http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/front-porch/348655-where-do-i-get-pickup.html.

I went with a Eagle cap made in Plymouth Indiana. Priced out better than the others and I liked the specs better at the time. I had them build a toolbox into one side of it. It is very handy for tiedowns and miscellaneous things. Plus this particular model has an extra strong roof so I was able to mount a small rack up there for hauling boats and ladders and long material.
