GE to phase out CFL bulbs for LEDs

Hope it drops the price of LEDs even further. Walmart had a 2 pack for $4.99. I just have to get adjusted to the watt equivalent from old incandescent to LED, 60 vs 8.5. I almost had it down for CFLs and now they go by the wayside. :laughing:

Just start comparing bulbs by the Lumens rating.. Forget watt equivalent. It is not a good way of comparison shopping anyway. Lumens is all about how much light a bulb puts out. That is why we buy them in the first place, to put out the light we need, not to consume electricity.

Our prices for LED lighting is still way too high.
I am buying some LEDs all the same. I refuse to pay for the other alternatives that are just crap, like those stupid flouro powersavers. They take 5 minutes to reach full brightness and the Halogen ones have very short lifespans and are way overpriced. (and use too much power)
I have even considered buying LED packs off ebay etc.
Aldis had a special a few weeks ago and I bought 4 of the long tube LED lights for $29 each. They are excellent.

Well, in truth, I bought 1 for my workshop. When my wife saw it she went straight back and bought 3 more. :laughing:

That's good news. I've never liked the CFLs. The LEDs that I've bought have been great. Of course the price will come down. I have other things in life to make me fret than the price of buying lights in my house for a few dollars more. It's like going out of my way to buy gas for $.02/gallon less.

The local electric utility here in Massachusetts occasionally has a program where I believe they subsidize the cost of energy saving light bulbs. Walmart has had 60w LED bulbs for $1.88 each under this incentive. I bought a bunch of them.

Last year I bought a GE LED indoor flood type light to put over the kitchen sink. Claimed 22 year life span at some given hours per day. After one year it does light, but blinks on and off randomly. GE will replace if I pay for postage back to them and provide a purchase receipt. Do I have the receipt for light bulb I bought a year ago? Nope....

I agree. As my CFL's die I will get LED's. Just wish the price would get real. LED's have been produces for 80 years and are cheap to make.
As to the $.02 for gas. I would buy from the station that offered the lower price as a reward for keeping prices low.

I bought several cases of the old style light bulbs that I can't even remember what they are called. I don't care for the CFL's and was hoping that I had enough bulbs to last until something better came along. On my dusk to dawn lights, I've been going with LED with fair to good results. Some have disappointed me by not lasting very long. So far, I haven't used any inside my house. I'll wait until I run out of regular bulbs and hopefully by then they will be better and cost less.

Don't be too hasty to jump on the LED bandwagon. As we come full circle, the next incarnation of incandescents may be twice as efficient as LEDs.

Interesting concept. Controlling the heat build up will be an obstacle to overcome.

In the past few weeks, I've noticed tons of 60 watt equivalent LED's in stores, priced below $2 per bulb. I wish I could find suitable 100 or 150 watt equivalent LED bulbs. I can find a few, but they are older styles and still priced $20 - $30 each. I'm hoping the higher lumen bulbs will be next to get updated and lower prices.
