Buying Advice Help me find a tractor to manage my 40 wooded acres

You should make time to attend the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, the premier ag show for the entire SE.

Every tractor manufacturer is there in force. October, every year.

That sounds like trouble to me.

The manual for my T110 FEL has a lift capacity listed for the 1520 at 770 pounds.

The dealer which has the New Holland tractor also has Kubota, Deere and others. I may just have to take a field trip out there and test drive the different makes. I'm finally coming around to the idea I should buy used. Thanks to all of you for beating some sense into me.

Craig's List and eBay both market used tractors. An easy way to get a feel for used tractor pricing.

Glad to hear you are coming around to the idea of buying used. I bought my first tractor (20hp) used at $8200 locally. It was 2 hrs old with 200 hrs. I sold in 9 years later so 11'yrs old with 650 hours for $7000 and put that towards a 45 hp tractor.

Duing that time I replaced one $50 part which I broke through my own stupidity. If you keep fluids clean and store it as dry as possible, a used tractor should be reliable.

you don't lose a lot buying and selling used tractors. Some even make money on the sale. Focus on buying well and you can always flip it later if your needs change.

The two used New Holland's (the T1520 and T1510, with differing hours) have the same S/N? Something is amiss with those ads, or at least curious... But, buying used is likely a good way to max out your bang for the buck. Still like that used Kubota, although it is more money, it is a lot more tractor, IMHO.
Looking at used tractors means driving them around and using the loader and 3-point, but find out about maintenance, if you can, and check for leaks and fluids. I have often found tire pressures to need adjustment, on used equipment. Some sellers just don't bother to check, and it can make a difference in how something "feels".

Allen don't make the mistake on getting on something that's little bigger and little more $$$ or your plan will go out the door:laughing: On the serious side it's good to go and get some seat time on the different ones,take all the time you need on each make sure you get them warmed up good not just cruise across parking lot,see if they have a dirt pile/pick up the front of tractor something to work the loader,check for leaks once it's parked,weird noises while working it, all those type things, it's a long term investment be happy with it.

Looked at several others and that 456 must just be number they throw in there.

Allen - Although it's a ways from you check out Barlow Equipment based in Kentucky.

They have a stellar reputation here at TBN and they USED to ship all over the country for very fair rates, I think they still do. They sold/bought/traded enough such that many people wrote testimonies here of their service and value. They may be hard to get through to but if you look up posts about them on TBN they are worth it. I came within a week of buying from them before I found my M4700 at auction.
