This was filmed in Latvia. Richard Proenneke was the fellow featured on public television in the Alone in the Wilderness film. He built a log home in Alaska using similar tools and methods, just not as fancy.

It is a shame we have forgotten the old ways and in many ways outlawed them. Here we can't use lumber cut on out own land. it has to have a stamp on it that is "big brother" approved. The way that house was built was beautiful. Thanks Ed

BUT, you can cut all the lumber and then hire a "grader" to come in and "grade" it, so you can build with it.
