B&D, You have done exactly what I said in my post. You refuse to answer questions, or provide supportive info for your statements, and instead ask others questions. Sorry, but you are now off the list to whom I will respond. Answer even five or six of the questions you have been asked in this thread and I will come back to you. Do not now ask what those questions are!!

Has anyone else been following the graphene electrical energy storage device developments? They are so close to market now (production lines being built). 1 kWh/kg. Allegedly very cheap production costs although everyone is being tight-lipped on the retail prices.

US perpetual promisers are Sunvault ( Sunvault Energy ), but it looks like a Spanish/Chinese group ( grabat ) has beaten them to the punch and are starting production this month, if their PR can be believed.

There's been so many false dawns I am trying not to get too excited, but I've been following this for about 18 months and the possibilities still blow me away.

For the home, they have a 24kWh model planned. Not sure of costing or exact timelines yet.

Some information on the Alberta power generating and distribution. Just recently it was announced that some coal fired power contracts were not renewed.

24 kWh is just about the size I would need to go off grid. I think the magic number is about $100/kWh, 5000 cycles, plus few thousand for cost of electronics.

Looks like a "super capacitor" with a very large surface area limited to around 5 volts.

The grabit single cell is 2.3V, I think, obviously each 'battery' has the cells configured for the required demands.
The fast charge/discharge and high cycle count of typical super/ultra caps, but without the typical front-loaded degradation, allegedly.

Really looking forward to seeing this brought to market. Too often these things are filled with claims that while provable in the lab are hopelessly compromised or costly to produce for retail markets. Having allegedly shelled out 18 million Euro (unless it's just another one of those BS 'letters of intent' scams that go nowhere) for a 10% stake in Grabit Energy, I can only hope the Chinese firm, CHINT (does, amongst other things, solar panels/systems) has done its due diligence on not just the technology but the patents.

I hope somebody comes out with some manner of cheap storage...that is the Holy Grail of solar.

I have a large AGM bank (1200ah, 24v) of telecom batteries I got nearly free due to a 'buddy' deal, but they would have been $15k if I'd had to pay full price.

Have you been to Alberta? The mess the oil industry is making around Black Diamond will take thousands of years to heal. There is no way to clean that up.

LOL! Nah, I've never been to Alberta ;) But I do love it when people comment on it who know so much about the province and the industries here.

What are these folks missing or did they forget to factor in the costs of cleaning wind after it's been through the turbine?

What are they missing? Certainly not missing any government subsidies or any other benefit they can! Any website run by the Canadian Wind Energy Association is OBVIOUSLY going to only ever say the positive side of wind and push the benefits. Seems pretty basic to me!
