Paying for Shipping for In Stock Set of Tires and Rims

I've decided to change to R4 tires for my tractor, which necessitates getting new rims also. I went to my local dealer where I purchased the tractor and got a price on the tire and rim package. I was quoted the list price which I expected and was told that they had 2 sets in stock (I assume they are for tractors that haven't been assembled yet) and there would be a $300 shipping charge added on top of the MSRP. I don't have a problem paying shipping on a rush order, but paying shipping on what could easily be a stock order (I'm in no hurry) should be part of the dealer overhead. Am I being realistic in thinking that this is something that is included in the list price for a part? Have you had to pay shipping on stock order parts? Any experience in this would be appreciated.

i've never had to pay shipping on something that would go in with the regular order, but i have never ordered rims/tires either, they are a little (alot) bigger/heavier than hoses, belts, filters, etc

The dealer want you to pay list price plus shipping for wheels and tires he has in stock. I think I'd get a quote from another dealer first.
I've had to pay shipping on parts not in stock. But the shipping I paid for the parts is to have the parts shipped directly to me.
I don't have access to know what dealer price is but assume that when I buy parts I'm paying list which includes shipping.

Getting another price is on my list of things to do this week. I just hope that shipping is not added by everyone.

The tire and rim assemblies wouldn't come from the parts side of the supply chain where you can piggyback it with an order for free freight. The y would come from the assembly center and would have to get shipped either with an order of tractors or on a pallet common carrier. Either way there's going to be freight on them.
Being a low margin item I can't say I blame the dealer for not wanting to eat the freight. Especially if they have the set of tires to go on a tractor and will need to replace them?

there is a guy in tenn. on ebay who sells tires and rims last set I bought shipping was like $125

If I can wait for my dealer's weekly shipment from Kubota there is no freight charge. They are a high volume dealer with a six man shop so they order a lot of parts. That may be part of the problem; small operations have no buying power.

For stuff that likely came in as part of a truck-load order, charging extra shipping is bad policy. I have considered buying 4 wheels with tires for a Kubota, and shipping would have been $150, from half way across the country. $300 would be painful, unless they are BIG.

these things obviously vary by vendor, but if those tires are for a new tractor and they have to order a replacement set loose odds are there is no freight free way to get them in.

No freight at our Kubota dealer if you wait for it to be included in their weekly order, only if shipped alone.
