3930dave: I'll agree with you.

I'd like to add that some of the manufacturing movement may be the need for modernized facilities.

So; you're trying to say you disagree with your current government actions whatever they may be. Does the use of the derogatory language tell us anything about the issues or is there a communication deficiency.

Well, I assume that the derogatory language does tell you something about the issues, but perhaps it is too subtle. And there is certainly a communication deficiency. The AB government has no idea how to communicate with Albertans. Definitely deficient.

The Alberta government considers the peasants too ignorant to know what is good for themselves and the world.

Nothing subtle about your comments. Just plain noxious.

Somewhat on topic...... the large scale erosion of the manufacturing base is also a driver (one that the politicians, of course, won't talk about) of kwh rates going up - you are amortizing the same and growing grid infrastructure costs over less total consumption.....

Much less on topic (sorry OP)..... many corporations won't bother upgrading manufacturing facilities here, when there is readily available low cost/slave/child labour on the other side of the planet...... not having to worry about any environmental/health/safety/human rights legislation adds up to a huge incentive (straight to the bottom line) to ship factories overseas........ all of which was put in motion 40+ years ago......

What goes round comes round...... in one form or another, a lot of the pollution we "exported" is ending up back in N. America.

Looking at the attached link it would appear that a majority of the solar panels are part of the out sourcing to the other side of the planet.

Ahyup......... I worked for a company that designed and built manufacturing lines for PV cells/panels. Our key customers were primarily in China and India..... even though that was back in the mid-80's, I said at the time "Do not underestimate China".

That was one time I'd rather have been wrong.....

Getting your adversary comfortable with under-estimating you is a formidable strategy .

Putting aside for the moment a totalitarian military-controlled country with a massive workforce and a currency that can be devalued at will for extended periods, another key factor in what we are touching on is Time - a country with written 500 year plans plays The Game very differently than the key-players pulling the Next-Quarter strings on Wall (and Bay) Street.....

My issue with this is not so much with the Chinese playing to Win, rather it's with the 0.1% over here setting us up to Lose...
