Feeding barn cats without the dog getting into it

We have four barn cats that are around here and a very fat dog. The dog keeps eating the cat food. The cats got a little lean over the winter, we need a better system. I'd love to go to an automatic feeder, but I don't want the dog eating it all and the dog is outside during the day.

Ideas?

I was looking for something more automatic or automated. I'd like to get them set up on an automatic waterer and feeder so I can make it a week without needing to do something.

I like the high table idea.

Open a bag of cat food (bait) and lay it on the high table on top the fridge. The mice and birds will get into it as well and the cats will eat them. Win, win.

Cats can climb and dog's can't. If you have to, mount a shelf higher up where the dog can't get to it but the cat's can.

Put a shelf up about six feet or so and tack a strip of old carpet to the wall beside it. If the shelf is big enough add a cat bed as well. Cat heaven!
