Sorry Moss, but Prince cast this stone, not us.

Huh?

I went back and read the first few pages of this thread. In just those few pages, people mentioned:
David Bowie
Glen Frey
Joe Walsh
JJ Cale
Eric Clapton
Duane Allman
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Bob Dylan
Jackson Browne
Mick Jagger
Keith Richards
Don McLean
Justin Bieber
Johnny Cash
Willie Nelson

What do all of those guys have in common? They all had well-documented struggles with substance abuse. No worse, no better than Prince. It didn't start with Prince and it didn't end with Prince.

You totally missed my point.

I didn't cast a stone against Prince. He cast it himself. Always the case with a Junkie. It's always their fault. But for some reason our society wants to idolize them.

Great lesson for our youth.

Merle Haggard Dies at 79 After Legendary, Drugs-Booze-and-Music Filled Life

I got nothing against Prince...the link to the video with Tom Petty etc...was impressive (even if he went a little over the top IMO)...but compared to the recognition factor...Prince is/was a nobody compared to M.H...

I consider myself an eclectic music aficionado with a bent towards R&R...but there is not one Prince song that I would recognize...
...like springsteen maybe he is just a "local" favorite...regardless of his musical ability...and record sales etc., etc...

You are acting like the surface of a pond and just keep skipping that stone along... ;)

The point is, he was well regarded in his community, his profession, his church, and basically a good human being. I doubt anyone is idolizing any alleged drug usage. They're idolizing his musical abilities and commitment to his fellow man.

Yeah. You won't find Prince in any of the same record books as Merle Haggard.... bad checks, grand theft auto, burglary, attempted escape from jail, Hotel San Quentin....

Let's have the youth idolize that rebellious spirit that defines great country music....

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DA**ED OLD TRAIN

Considering the core demographic of the TBN community...I can't seem to fathom the fact (like in the mass media) that some very talented artist (with a limited fan base) has gotten more bandwidth on TBN than a poetic/musical genius like Merle Haggard has...! go figure...

You mean the ex-convict alumnus of San Quentin and Bakersfield Prison, convicted multiple times for burglary and robbery?

Just saying....

Oh, and don't get me started on that guy they called "The Man in Black".

I just can't understand prince not having a will. I made mine when I bought my first house and this guy is worth 300 million + and no will.

The list at Forbes Welcome of famous people who died intestate includes Howard Hughes. He was one of the wealthiest (if not the wealthiest) Americans when he died.:confused3:

You were right about him and his drugs though. Too many news sources to to call it BS. I just don't put much stock in what I read much anymore.

Odd, I heard the overdose bit the first day and then it wasn't mentioned for a long time.

It is almost a dead lock bet that any performer who dies young Od'd.

Drugs got him bad but the "time in prison" is not true. The most time he ever spent locked up was overnighters in county jails.
