Getting rid of old gas.

If it still smells like gas, I'll dump a gallon at a time into my 25 gallon truck. If it smells real bad, not like gas at all, sometimes I'll put some in an open container, and touch it off. Many times it won't even burn. If not, then I'll throw in a little diesel and burn the diesel and the bad gas together.

I ran 5 year old gas that smelled like varnish through my corolla. It was about 7 gallons IIRC. Ran like crap but it still got me around. I did use a nice big bottle of techron on the next tank though. I refuse to waste stuff.

I wouldn't use bad gas, just cause I didn't want to waste. It already has been wasted. If the car ran bad, you probably got bad mileage too. Not to mention clogging injectors, which is waste.

All you did was get rid of it. You saved little, and risked more. Stroked your ego, that you stuck to your beleifs us all.

When I used wooden posts - I mixed used motor oil, Penta, old gas & Creasote in a 55 gallon drum. Stand the posts up in the drum and let them soak. The gas would "thin out" this nasty mixture and allow it to soak deeper into the posts.

That should work. It will get diluted good that way.

.. so I dumped a couple gallons on the driveway but I didn't have matches with me. I walked 50 feet to get some and by the time I lit it up the fumes traveled about 50 feet into a woods. Luckily for me it just flashed but wasn't a sustained heat so the woods and the house was spared. Fumes will travel.

People forget that one gallon of gasoline has enough energy to move my 3000 lb car a distance of about 30miles. Actually, less than 1/3 of a gallon can do this, the other 70% is wasted. Two gallons being instantly consumed is a lot of energy being released.

Nobody has posted anything screaming that I'm going to screw up my engine so I guess I'm OK doing this. My plan is to use a quart a tankful until it is gone. May put a gallon or two in my truck to speed the process.

A recycling place near us uses a Kubota skid steer. The owner had a diesel pickup that had serious engine trouble due to bad diesel. Like a new engine if I remember correctly. So they drained the tank and burned the fuel in the Kubota. Said the filters it had enabled them to burn anything.

Just telling.

Figure if you have a standard size truck and can burn a tank /week and the old gas still pours without need of a spoon, a quart/gallon shouldn't hurt much. If you notice a problem then skip it for a tank. Not an expert but 18 mo old untreated gas may not be a problem other than it lost its punch but has not yet turned to varnish. On my lawn equipment I know for a fact that 9 months is about max unless I use a fuel stabilizer in premium fuel. I can pull that starter rope all day until I drain the tank and start with fresh fuel.
