Diesel Additive

Opti-lube & schaeffers diesel treat.

I use Power Service white bottle year round. Keep the fuel in 5 gal. cans and may set all winter so only running summer blend. Only use the tractor for snow in the winter.
Never a problem. I like the extra lube and cetane boost from PS.

How do you measure the effects of the extra cetane and the extra lube? In a qualified laboratory ?

No brand names. Use some that has no alcohol in it and does have a biocide.

I use power service (white bottle) in the winter as an anti gel and use marvel mystery oil in summer much less expensive.....both are good lubricants and injector cleaners....use what the big boys use in the 18 wheelers. their living depends on keeping those diesel rigs running year round....I pulled RVs coast to coast for two years in some pretty cold winter weather....you need to use something because diesel fuel is pretty dirty.

diesel fuel will grow hair if left stored in a tank too long without an additive.

The lab work is based on various test results from several online sources.

I guess the best way is it starts in 1-2 seconds and has never had any problems in 13 years and over 1400hrs.

Could I get by without it? Possibly but PS is cheap insurance. The source of my off-road diesel is a local station in town. I doubt it is a high volume dealer. Just local contractors and people like myself. No telling even if he changes to winter fuel or not. I run it though Mr. Funnel to get the gunk out.

I've had diesel sit in the Kenbota for two years while it was disabled and no time to fix it. Put the battery back in it that had been on a maintainer and it fired right up. I don't use any additive except in gasoline. The gas down here will go bad in two weeks if left sitting. The diesel gets used up pretty quick around here and rarely sits unused for more than a month. Sometimes longer during the recent rains. It's been too wet to take a tractor into the fields. I had to pull the Ford out with the dozer last week trying to cut some areas in the back.

It looks like the brands are all over the place. So what is this magic potion supposed to do? Sounds a lot like the followers of Marvel Mystery Oil that claim that it fixes everything from engine leaks to balding scalps. :) It's nothing but a perfumed solvent.
