He used to say it anytime some important decision had to be made: You have to know which way to shoot. I understood what he was saying many years later. My grandpa fought in WW1. His story was that in example they had large dogs to pull mountain canons and machine guns. The officers adopted the dogs as pets and make the soldiers to drag the canons. Also the dogs got better food and accommodation than soldiers etc. To make the story short most soldiers hated their officers. So when they were commanded to attack they shot the officer running in front of the platoon. When he fell platoon made U turn and run back. Then the army changed the rule. The officer was running behind the platoon but somebody turned back and shot him anyway. Both sides were doing that and the front stalled for years. There were only few officers that were in fact protected by his men. Most officers were sh!!tting their pants when shot of rum was distributed to men.

Since the US never really got stalled - which army are you talking about?

That kinda makes you wonder about old Democrats doesn't it. It is also perhaps a good reason to raise the voting age back to 21 or at least until someone has served his country and has something invested in it.

Agree at least have some life experience past high school and being totally taken care of. Your comment about having something invested in it makes a lot of sense. Most have not earned what they are expecting.
