I have a 2004 kubota b7510 with a back hoe and bucket. My axle bolts keep loosing up on me. I have tighten them to 108 ft-lbs like the manual says. I drove the tractor just about 1000ft and they loosen up on me. Does anyone have an answer to this? Do i need new axle bolts, lock washers and nuts? Should i use locking nuts instead?

Hi Inky,

Welcome to TBN. Your problem is a bit difficult to answer because: 1) any answer will have a direct impact on safety and 2) I can't physically examine the nuts, bolts and how whatever is happening, is happening.

However, I will suggest some areas to look at.

Perhaps the axle bolts are not the correct type and are stretching or are not seating on the rim or axle hub correctly.

Perhaps the rim or axle hubs are warped and cause the bolts to loosen.

Are you sure the Op manual says 108 ft-lbs and are you using a reliable torque wrench

Before you do anything serious - I would have either your Kubota dealership or a reputable tire wholesaler examine your situation.

Are you using an extension on the torque wrench to reach inside the wheel? If so there may be a lesser amount of torque applied being applied to the bolts due to the extension length.

I am not familiar with the 7510. What exactly do you mean by "Axle Bolts"? Are you speaking of the nuts that hold the wheels on? ON my 2550 I have studs that go into the axle and then nuts that hold the wheel on. Are the studs backing out or nuts coming loose?

Axial length of an extension does not affect torque of a manual torque wrench. Assuming OP is not extending an impact wrench an extension would be no problem.

I've seen equipment used with lose rim bolts and the working back and forth loosens everything.

On one I used loctite and that took care of the problem...

I've never had problems with my inner wheel bolts nor outer rim bolts loosening. But, who would, when they specify 300 ft-lbs for them all.

However, a couple of years ago, just as a precaution, I did use Blue Locktite on all the bolts. I did the same on the FEL frame bolts also.

First starting using Blue and Red Loctite back in the 70's on the antique cars I was restoring...

I remember reading somewhere that raising the rear wheels while back hoeing and not setting the brake will cause the rear wheels to become loose. Wonder if that started the issue?
Agree that loctite is king!
