I talked to the woman at the sports counter she told me there two guys that take all the 22 the truck deliver .

I pressed him but he stuck to his story about different days of the week. He was an older fellow about my age.
Old men are wise... Especially sticking to their stories.

It all started January 2013. after the December 12 Sandy Hook thing. And while it is seems to be regional, and variable, I can guarantee you cannot go to any wal mart in my area and buy .22LR rimfire except for a few minutes in the morning when it is set out on the shelf. poof! gone!

Same here.

It started here in 2009, the home center I was the GM for sold ammo and we could order all we wanted but it rarely ever shipped. The number of back orders was astounding.

Here, you have to talk to the Walmart stocking folk to find out what day of the week it usually shows up and then be there when the doors open. They will try to spread it out to those who are there at opening rather run let one guy hog it all. Crazy really.

The last one I asked just a couple of weeks ago said it was different days. Not something you can count on. He said be here before 7:00am each day of the week to see what day it is put out.

Same here.

It's all in plentiful stock now just at a higher price.

I haven't had any problems finding ammo in the past couple of years, but I also do not have a .22 but have bought it when I could. I opted for the .17 HMR because the ammo is plentiful and inexpensive, relatively speaking. Our local stores have plenty .22 on the shelves, and yes at a much higher price. We buy our ammo online in bulk because the savings is there.

No .22 at the local stores here still. I do see it online fairly regular for about $.08 per round.

Back in 1990 I bought a brick of 22s for 12.00! Those days are long gone.

I bought several in 2010, one year after the Obama inauguration for prices ranging from $19 to $23 loose pack Federa box of 550.

Yes I can find bricks locally for around $60, at gun dealers. There is no .22LR to be had at Wal-Mart during the day.

We actually get none. They pulled the spot on the shelves for it even!

What's that tell ya!

I'd pay a reasonable upcharge, but the scalpers are selling 300-500rnd bricks for 60-75$.

Sad part is, the scalpers are making enough money to buy out and deplete local stock, so locals here are forced to pay scalp price, thus perpetuating the cycle.

I refuse.

Its cheaper for me to shoot surplus 8mm mauser and 762x54r milsurp. Its way cheaper than 22lr.. That's sad..

I'm still shooting pre ww2 and layer surplus. I have some ww1 303 that is finally getting slow /no primer pops, so I pull it for projectiles.

Neat to see cordite strands ;)
