IT, I support your right to fear an inanimate object, but it is a phobia. I support your right to never own a gun. I do not support your desire to stop other law abiding people from owning a gun, any legal to own gun. Changing laws to restrict rights isn't a solution, it is a symptom of failed reasoning. What you term an assault rifle is a made up term by people with an agenda in hopes of convincing people who refuse to understand reality. There is nothing about the AR group of guns that makes them any more assault capable than any semi-automatic rifle, or pistol. I can shoot my pistols about as fast as my AR's, I can shoot my lever action 30-30 almost as fast, some people can shoot it faster than an AR.

I understand that you may never see the fallacy in your thinking, but I hope you do. Guns have never been the problem, sickness in people has always been the problem. Removing any gun will not cure the sickness in people, they just find another avenue to unleash their sickness, like a truck, a pressure cooker, fertilizer, etc. etc.

Very well said!

Are all simi-auto guns considered am assault weapon, or is it when a pistil grip is put on? and if the simi's are ever outlawed, then only are very trust worthy government and criminals will have them, if anyone cant see that, then talk to the hand...............

Everyone says, now days there are a lot of bad/sick people out there that want to do harm, but if one looks back threw history and dont have to go far, there's always been people that want to do/did harm and worse, you can go as far back to the Roman Empire.

I'm a MA resident and I obviously support the AG. Bottom line is that we don't want people running around with assault weapons and this new decision simply closes loopholes that the gun industry was taking advantage of.

Island Tractor,

I'm hoping you could do me a favor. I've seen at times that people argue about things that they actually agree on. They argue because they have different definitions of terms. Can you please do what I've NEVER had done and answer simply what is an "assault weapon." I'm not big into guns, but Cuomo encouraged me to get my permit. I was also surprised when I took in a very old 22 to be repaired. I was told it was considered an assault weapon by NY and need to be modified or registered.

The new AG of Mass, interpretation of the law, would make any semi automatic firearm of any type including handguns "assault weapons" if she so chooses, as by her definition anything that self loads could fall under that definition because the action is essentially the same as the original banned firearm. This is where the "rub" comes in. An Assault Weapon is what ever she says it is. Which is ironic because the executive branch of government cannot interpret laws. That is the job of the Judicial branch. This is also where the Obama administrations selective enforcement of laws like sanctuary city's, immigration etc is "messing up". The laws are the laws. Executive branch cannot craft laws, and they cannot decide which ones they will enforce and which ones they will not, and if there are questions on what a law says, it is up to the judicial branch of government to decide what a law says.

I'm glad that y'all are so concerned about my home state (actually commonwealth) but I assure you we are fine with our strict gun laws. Unless one of you is from Hawaii then you all live in states with higher firearm death rates than we enjoy in MA. We are safe without needing assault rifles. And, no, criminal gangs are not running amuck with illegal guns. And our all causes murder rate is also close to the lowest in the nation and less than half of the national average.

So, if you really want to protect your families, sell the guns and move to MA.

With all due respect and no malice intended, you sir can speak for your self!

I too am from Massachusetts and am not fine with the now even more ridiculous gun laws in this state. They are a blatant violation of second amendment rights.

True. Sadly inner city gun violence has not responded to control efforts. It doesn't impact citizens other than young black and brown males for the most part. No evidence that assault rifles would help in any way.

"Sadly inner city gun violence has not responded to control efforts"

Huh, are you saying that criminals do not follow laws??? What a surprise!

Man, you said a mouthful there. And you know what? "inner city violence" will never respond to gun control efforts. Because drug dealers on every street corner don't give a **** whatever gun laws you liberals at the state capital pass. And that don't matter if it is in your liberal enlightened progressive state or my conservative, neanderthal, knuckle dragging one. And that is just a fact Jack!

What if the AG wanted your car? An ice cream delivery truck? Your kitchen knives? Is that ok?

ONE AT A TIME, that's all it takes.

Read the story about fencing in feral hogs and then check back in. Lose one right at a time and before you know they're gone.
