The Vietnam yanmars were more than repainted. They swapped parts that needed to be and also pretty sure they disassemble almost all the parts and reseal them. I say this cause I have one and everything that has a gasket that I have taken apart has that same nasty super adhesive glue that they used. That stuff sticks. The paper gaskets pretty much almost pull apart when you get them apart. Can't hardly get the gunk off, the easiest way I have found is an angle grinder or drill with a wire wheel. It's that nasty.

True.

I just wanted to provide as 'heads up' in case that nearby Yanmar dealer turns out to be a VN refurb dealer. In my experience they aren't very interested in US-version Yanmars and of course they can't order factory parts.

just a thought.. Someone here (last yr ?) needed that part, and even though hoye showed it. He didn't have it ... I don't know if he ever found that part.. he hasn't been around in a while..I could be totally wrong,as I'm going off my old memory, But I would check ,and see if hoye has that part...Price seems kind of high to me..Not knowing hours, if the part / parts can be had, etc, seems like maybe a 4 K tractor .. I would buy it as if it were a 2 wd tractor forever

Winston1, Thanks, That drop box shift arm looks like what the seller was describing. I bet you are right about not needing to remove the bucket. I'm getting info through the wife as the husband is already in Colorado. I bet she meant to say you have to drop the front drive shaft instead of drop the bucket. If that's the case, what am I getting in to? My brother is an auto mechanic and we work on our own vehicles so as long as we can get parts from Hoye I think we should be okay... but I admit I've never worked on a tractor before.

California, The closest dealer to me is Kaweah Lift Inc in Visalia. You're right, they sell newer Yanmar tractors. I can't afford a new tractor and want one we can fix ourselves. I did become aware of the grey market tractors when researching and will avoid them. If I determine that this is worth a shot, I'll use it in 2WD until I can get to the repairs. I will also take a look at what is available used in the area before I decide.

Clemsonfor, The line I was referring to about narrowing it down was "It was the part that the 4WD lever connects to just inside the box". I think Winston1 suggested the right part (drop box shift arm) as long as that's the only thing wrong in there. Yes, The unknown is worrysome.

Kenmack, good idea about seeing if the part is available.

Thanks for all the input!

"Grey market" is not the bad thing. Most of the American tractors have a sister grey model. California's ym240 and my YM2000 are literally the exact same tractor...EXCEPT paint color, reverse operation throttle and he has an internal ratcheting PTO instead of mine that I have an external one mounted. There the same. What There trying to steer you from is the Vietnam reconditioned models that could have random parts on or questionable quality....and orphan tractors like a ym2200.

But I California and I both order the exact same parts for our tractor off the same parts list from Hoye as their the same tractor.

I hadn't read close enough to see that Winston identified the "$40" part, sorry.

And I kind or remember what kenmac was describing but also can't remember the details.

I wish I could remember who it was.. He had a tornado hit his place.. something hit the tractor and cause that arm to get broken.. I helped him try to locate 1 through all my sources.. Never found it I don;t believe

The Yanmar web site identifies the YM 220D as an 'official', sponsored, tractor.

Dropping the driveshaft would normally not be difficult. the loader frame could cause problems there. Still very doable. Why don't you call Hoye and inquire about the part in question?

How does the owner know the shift arm is the problem? Has he taken it apart?

Didn't they say it was apart for a clutch but the part could not be found in time to replace it?? What I thought I read that he posted?
