Well, having read your posts carefully, and upon much deliberation; I have concluded the following,
Yes, my pets are on the same level as you.

So you think that a dog worrying livestock should be left alone? What should I do in that case?

This thread has really gotten off topic, and is starting to sour...

You know your neighbor's visitors are from the city when they go to bed at 1:00 AM and sleep until 9:30 AM, thereby managing to miss the best part of the day. Plus, they screw up the schedule of the host that is down with the sun and up with the chickens but, no, I'm not bitter. :D

Ours go to bed at 10 and get up at 10. Works great for us - My wife and I get up early and enjoy visiting with each other over coffee out on the deck before the crowd wakes up!:p

I'm just curious how someone can justify dumping an animal instead of finding a good home for it?

We hapen to live in an area where people deem it a pretty good spot to dump off kittens. Wife and I don't have cats. She's allergic, and one of our dogs can't stand them and will hurt them. We just rescued one that came in through the doggy door into our sunroom, and got nailed by our jack Russell.

Had a pretty hefty vet bill because someone did the irresponsible thing instead of finding it a good home  The good news, is after being de-wormed, eye drops 4 times a day for a punctured cornea for two weeks, flea dip and combing, a couple days stay at the vets office due to malnourishment, she is healthy and we found her a good home.

But we have also found several over the years that didn't make it through the night because they were too far gone :(

To either of the posters^^^^^^^^^ Larry or Turnkey4099

^^^^^^ Reading your replies, are you referring to the people that are not the problem OR are you referring that the animals are the problem?

An animal doesn't wish to stay outside in the hot sun, nor do they want to stay in their cage all day.

Responsible pet people, do research on the type of animal that would be a good match for the family.

We were referring to the scum that dumps animals. They ARE the problem

Then there's people who abandon exotic pets in the country when the pet reaches maturity and isn't so cuddly.

I've read in Japan there are many rural shrines in the mountains that have been there for centuries, and now are being destroyed by abandoned raccoons. Raccoons aren't native to Japan, baby ones were imported recently as pets after they were popularized by a cartoon ... that taught the kids to release their pet raccoons into the nearest forest after a year. In Japan there aren't any predators to control these feral raccoons and many historic artifacts are being destroyed by them.

Here in addition to kittens I seem to be the destination for abandoned peacocks. The one below is friendly, he thinks he's another family member and stayed close for several months despite I never fed him. Obviously raised as a pet. There was one that hung around for a couple of years a while back, a little more cautious but at sundown he would insist I let him into the guest cabin for the night. Obviously learned behavior. Every evening I told him no way and walked off leaving him outside the door. It took months before he would just go up in the redwood tree at sundown. Then in the morning he would squawk incessantly for me to come out so he could follow me around, if he didn't see me by 8 AM. I never fed him either, don't know why he adopted us, but he seemed to stay around the house because he felt safer there.

Added: Here's that prior peacock, 2011 photo. Here he walked up to me in the barn and scared me a little when he kept coming closer. I wasn't sure if he was about to claw my eyes out or just wanted to jump up and ride on my shoulder. I threatened to step on his toes - he was that close and still advancing - and that backed him off.
