Hmmm You may be right. The manual sure doesn't show it. It doesn't show where to attach the front end of the safety chain either. May need to do some more investigating. Curiosity killed the cat.

Upon further investigation :) there does indeed appear to be a place to connect a safety chain near the front end of the drawbar. There is a safety chain guide attached to the drawbar that is mentioned in the manual.
Also noted, as a side issue, that the drawbar appears to be reversible with a larger hole in one end than the other. Didn't see that in the manual though.

I don't think the drawbar is reversible. The pin size in the underbelly of the tractor should just fit the hole with negligible slop. I think you will find the end where an attachment is made for pulling has a larger hole. If your drawbar has a clevis style end or a bend in the bar, it can be flipped over to raise or lower the position of attachment.

The extra hole in the drawbar is probably to give you 2 options for length. You can extend or retract the drawbar by pulling the pin, sliding the bar in or out, and replacing the pin.

Dang it guys, youre getting me all worked up now. Can't wait to get home this evening and investigate further.
The reason I thought it reversible is that the hole at aft end is way over size for 29 HP. There is an extra hole in front of the PIVOT pin that looks more correct size.

Pretty sure that there should be a (close in) stored position, and a std. working position (outward). There is a std. dimension between the drawbar "pin" and the pto for towed pto equipment driveshaft legnth.
That's not saying you couldn't use the drawbar in the inward position yanking around a wagon or trailer.

Here's a parts page from Messick's for reference. Does yours look like this?

In my experience, the two holes in the drawbar are for the two PTO speeds 540 and 1000. Short hole for the former, longer hole for the latter. It's mentioned in one of the Kubota M owner's manuals.

Use any hole for wagons or whatever.

Yep, looks exactly like my drawbar except I don't have the hammerstrap as shown. The two holes in the front are obviously for length adjustment.
I'm still surprised at the large diameter (1 1/4" plus) for the hitch pin for 29 HP but maybe that's what the standard calls for. I guess that does give wiggle room for flex?
Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Edit: There are cutouts both sides next to the front pivot pin that are not quite visible in the diagram. These would surely be for the safety chain attachment and the left one lines up with the safety chain support. (detail 10)

I don't think I would trust a cast loop to hold a tractor on a trailer. Might crack it with a cheater bar on a snap binder?!
I always chain to the frame, front and rear, Binders on passenger side. FEL and any equipment get a chain and binder as well.
