I need an anti-trespasser Go-Pro for my RTV

HS, not trying to be argumentative (I do agree it is best not to inflame a situation) but in this instance the trespasser was apparently deer hunting. If (and I realize that is an if) the trespasser was carrying a hunting rifle, the baseball bat is not what I would want to be carrying. I agree with you that I would like to hear the whole encounter.
If someone was hunting illegally why not just call fish game warden, that is much more than a trespassing charge. If his vehicle was parked on my property while he was hunting, I'd destroy it. HS

I have no experience with any "Go-Pro"/game, etc type cameras. I have a LOT of experience with trespassers - but that's not the question. A good friend that hunts on my property has one of those expensive Go-Pro cameras mounted on this ATV. Its plugged in to the accessory outlet - so batteries are no problem. It takes still pics and video. The problem is when he takes video while driving the ATV - the results are SO VERY bouncy, jumpy etc, etc that you can't tell what is going on.

Personally- I think any camera that costs around $400 should have video image stabilization and I'll bet his does. He just hasn't figured out how to turn it on.

I have half a dozen Wildgame Innovations Cloak 6 game cameras. They have done very well at providing me with wildlife and trespasser pictures. But putting the camera in a spot where it will pick up motion, capture the picture of what created the motion, and not stand out so much that it is easily avoided, taken, or destroyed, is a difficult chore.
I keep several of them hidden as best I can and I have two that are "sacrificial lambs". Those two are blatantly out in the open aimed at my driveway.....oddly enough, some people still don't see them.

I have three that are kinda hid.
One quit last year and it is now blatantly on a tree up about 10 feet pointing toward front of my shop.
I feed deer in the back yard with a feeder and don't want hunters on property as that's not quite fair I think.
And according to dearly beloved, I'm getting to be an ol grouch about the land and fences.

I have the GoPro Hero. It works great and there are a variety of mounts that you can adopt to a vehicle. The Hero is wide angle and has good resolution.

"Do you have a camera recommendation"

Just some experience. I'm finding my newer Moultrie's are very sensitive to battery strength. Both said they had 99% battery but wouldn't capture images. The batteries tested at 1.5 volts. The cameras work fine with new batteries at 1.6 volts. Nice images at 1.6 volts but that doesn't seem to last long.

If the batteries are not Lithium, you might want to try Lithium since they generally maintain their voltage before it drops. Plus, Lithium handles cold really well.

Dan

You make a good point about the game warden. So much depends on the exact situation. If I see someone who doesn't see me then I've got that decision to make. If we see each other at the same time, then it would seem appropriate to keep it from escalating but still standing my ground and telling them to leave. As to his vehicle on my ground while hunting on my ground, I would definitely call the warden/sherriff and ask for the vehicle to be impounded or at least ticketed. I guess it depends partly on where it is. If it just parked next to the road, that isn't too intrusive (but still worth a call). If it is parked 100 yards or more into my property that is intrusive and is a definite call the authorities and complain. I would be tempted to let the air out of his tires. Not destructive but the trespasser/hunter is inconveniencing me (I shouldn't have to be walking my ground searching for someone, especially during hunting season.) I doubt I would damage his vehicle beyond a very simple, basically costless repair. Maybe cover the windows with mud if it was available. Maybe plug his tailpipe with a banana or apple. Hmmm, if it is unlocked well it seems like I always have to go.

Thanks Dan. I hadn't thought of that. I'll give them a try.

I just bought a plot watcher pro because my motion activated cameras were not catching everything I needed to see.

$299, Ouch! Did you pay that much?

Electronic devices evolve so fast, it's not worth spending more $100 or so; they'll be superseded in 6 months or less.

Thanks for the input.

FTG, maybe you can share your story so we can all learn?

Sorry no.

This is a request for go pro type camera recommendations thread, not a "how badly FTG forked up Sunday" thread. :)

Maybe some day.
