What are the reasons for NOT using Cruise Control?

Live and let live. Try to have an understanding of all of the possibilities that could be occurring in the lives of these other people. Some people can't afford the more powerful engine for their car and can't maintain speeds on hills. Some people may have bad backs and taking certain turns at too high of rate of speed might cause them extreme discomfort. Someone may be transporting delicate items and need to slow down for rough areas. Someone could be just learning to drive, or unfamiliar with the roadways.

The type of person that would even start this thread, and the type of people that join in with full agreement, are the sorts of folk that only think of themselves and care nothing for others. This actually goes well beyond anti-social and well into sociopathic...

Normal standards is consideration of other drivers. Where do you fit in that?

Me? I leave plenty of space for other drivers driving within the flow to do their thing. I drive in such a manner that me and my vehicle will remain safe even if not shown the same courtesy.

And expecting everyone to perform to, whatever it is you consider to be "normal standards", isn't anti-social? Driving for efficiency isn't a normal standard to you apparently. Hate to break it to you, just cause you don't consider it to be a normal standard, doesn't make it so.

Driving for efficiency at the cost of interfering with others....

Umm, you stated that you drive for you and ultimate performance of your vehicle and you don't care what others do. Actually called others on the road idiots. Your not consistent in your statements. Just pointing that out for ya.

Folk that are going with the general flow, I allow ample room to do what they want and even yield the right-of-way to them if it won't hinder the flow. Some "idiot" that comes flying up behind me flashing his lights and flipping me off because I'm not passing someone going slower than both of us, as fast as what they had their cruise control set, I could care less... My typewritten explanations may leave something to be desired, but I'm very consistent in my driving style.

The only folk I interfere with are the ones that are not driving with the flow. There are more drivers like me in my mountains than there are like you. We get along fine. There are very few places around here you can use cruise during "rush hour". The ones that do are the ones not moving with the flow and cause most of the roadway problems.

Another thing here that contributes to cruise control being inefficient, our highway has merge lanes for entrances, not yield signs. When someone is coming onto the interstate, you must, speed up, slow down, move over, or a combination of those maneuvers. If you don't make room for traffic to come onto the highway, you will be cited for aggressive driving if a cop happens to see it. This leaves NO lanes that can always maintain speed in all conditions. To expect such a thing around here is simply being unrealistic.

I was behind a guy, that was behind a five ton truck. At first, I thought the truck was towing the car, it was so close. This went on for half an hour or so. Then it became multi lane, and I actually managed to pull along side this guy at a light and get his attention. He was all smiles. I asked him, if he could have driven any closer to that truck. His smile disappeared, and he answered, that he could!

Man, too many people drive without using their brain!

I totally understand the discomfort, delicate load (I just hauled home a very top heavy air compressor in the back of my pickup just yesterday), rough road, just learning, but that doesn't excuse driving in the left lane in my mind.

I think you are over reacting and being too serious with comment, "The type of person that would even start this thread and the type of people..." Seems to me a very prejudiced statement! Anti-social... sociopathic? Come on, man!

I wasn't the one to call a widely accepted driving style as 'antisocial'. I was just turning that same logic about a normal style of driving being anti-social around to make a point. Point being; that if driving in a manner that many apparently consider a normal method of driving offends someone, especially to the point of creating or posting to a thread to complain about someone's driving, the person who is offended is apparently uncaring for the situations of others. Not caring about others is technically a sociopathic trait. If these other drivers are truly creating a hazard, get their license plate number, description, or both, and call the police. If they are driving within the laws, and you are offended, you really need to take it down a notch.
