You can keep your 1964. I'll put my wife & kids in the newer car with the useless safety upgrades.
You apparently missed my point but I never really was good at getting some things across. I don't see the need for traction control, computer assisted shifting, the computer taking control away from the driver, back up cameras and things of this nature and used the simplicity of an old car or truck being more than able to run the road at the posted speed limits safely without them.
Yes I like upgrades that enable us to stop the car better like 4 wheel disk brakes, drive it smoother like power steering, and even shift it better with a hyd slave cyl for the clutch. I like having the fuel tank stuffed in there where it is less likely to be punctured and have no problem with crumple zones. I even ENJOYED the deployment of an air bag back in 92 when I got hit by a drunk driver compared with the hospital visit that ensued when I had the same experience in my 64 Polara years prior. But fact be know if I could have that old dodge back with an air bag, a couple crumple zones 4 wheel disk brakes and regular power steering it would serve me just as well as any of the new cars on the lot today.
I still don't see any gadget or gizmo that truly makes me think that the driver wont become lazy in some other way like my example about anti lock breaks.
My brother in law purchased a Subaru this past year and bragged about its great safety features that will prevent him from running off the road if he goes too fast around a turn. Guess what happened to him 3 months after buying the car? Yes he ran off the road going around a turn on his way to visit us It seems that the computer can only do so much and wasn't able to do anything better when traction became a factor. I drove that same turn in both my 64 dodge and 68 road runner at twice the speed he estimated himself to be going when he lost it and with two cars that are so called inferior to todays standards I didn't hit anything or even loose the paved roadway at all so you tell me what gives? Do we need more gadgets or do we need better drivers?
