Boy you guys are getting off cheap. I had a $400 Echo saw and had it for ten years and a tree fell on it. Bought another $400 Stihl saw which I still have and it still works. A couple months ago I sprung for a $625 Echo to finish the lineup and a small saw for limbing.
But then I had to have a JD tractor for hauling logs out of the woods and then a GN trailer to haul firewood home because I'm not getting any younger and needed to make it easier.

So I figure I burn 4 cord a year max with my new $5000 fireplace for about $44500 over a 20 year period. It is costing me $2225 a year to burn wood what would cost me $800 a year on LP.

But I like to do it?? :dance1::dance1:

You want another kicker.... you could work at McDonalds or Walmart for a couple weeks and pay for your heat bill for the entire year. ;)

Just thought I'd throw that out there to make everyone that heats with wood more happy (myself included).

Think I should of been more clear, already have a saw Husqvarna 550xp, paid $500.00+tax back in the spring of 2013, it was a replacement for a I think a 246xp I had. At my welding job, sometimes the subject of chainsaws comes up, this guy I work with tell's me how much he's liking this cheap $110.00 Bluemax chainsaw bought at Amazon couple years ago, starts everytime, idles when he sets it down.........but also says he's just a part time saw user.

Next time I get a chance, I'm gonna try one of these chinese saw's next to my 550xp, I had several saws, and have several brands, but so and pound for pound, I dont think there's a faster cutting saw on the market, not only that, the adjustment nuts stays on the cover............now I have to go back and finish reading these interesting post, I'm a slow reader.

I had one of those my first ten years making firewood but then it fell off the trailer and got ran over. It still cranked afterward but it ran too hot with so many fins missing to cool it down otherwise it would still be going strong I am sure.

I bought a Echo CS500p a couple years ago, its the exact same saw as that old Shindaiwa 488, very reliable little saw and not quite as pricey as its match in the Husky or Stihl roster.

I paid $60 for that 488. It came with a gallon of bar oil and three brand new chains. It's a very reliable saw. It's absolutely never failed start. I just bought a parts saw for it which included a cylinder in pretty good shape and a fully adjustable carb, which my original saw didn't have. I figure once I get some spare time this winter I'm going to try my hand at porting it.

I bought a $650 pro Stihl limbing saw, MS201T and it made me mad for 3 years. Always 3 or 4 pulls to start (at least). I bought it against my Husqv buddy's advice. He had given up on Stihl a few years prior,. He razzes me all the time. He always looks at me and smiles when his Husqv starts on the first pull, every time. Then a few months ago I got on the internet and figured out how to hotrod it and at least I like it now. It starts better too.

Stihl made an upgrade for the MS201T after a year or so; but they wanted $200 for the kit. I already paid premium price, why don't they take back their junk parts and just make my $650 pro saw work? I don't think I'd buy another Stihl.

I have an 028 AV Super that I like. The coil went bad, no spark intermittently. After it died completely then no spark period proved it was the coil. New coil solved it instantly.

My buddy's gone to 40v Electric (Husqv) for limbing though. His crew always fights over who get the electric saw. So much easier than a gas saw for many things, especially occasional use. You'd be surprised how much time is wasted with gas, starting, putting hearing protection on and off, its huge. Electric is probably not better for routine firewood cutting. But the electric saw makes my $650 MS201T look cheap.

You can get super high quality from China, but it usually costs a lot more than the cheap stuff. Can't tell just by price though, some things cost more simply because more money was skimmed out of the deal.

My heat bill is over $300 a month if I don't burn wood, and that's heated 10 degrease cooler than if I was burning wood. That's not a McDonald's salary.
