In 36 years I've collected two tree stands, tree steps, and a hunting camo tent-like hideout on posted property!!!

Came up on a tree stand in one of my trees once....kind that uses the screw in steps like a telephone pole. Guy had removed the steps, I guess thinking his stand would be safe. I sawed the tree down, and took the stand.

About a week later, neighbor (who I'd already told don't hunt on me) calls up and asked if I found a tree stand. I asked him if he found a stump ! I'd have given 100 bucks to have seen his face....ahahah

Yeah thankfully I don't have trespassing problems. We have often heard engine noise (ATV/Dirt bike etc) around. of course you can never tell where those are. Going out and checking the "back 40" never found any evidence they were on my side of the line.

That said I do not understand people who think it is ok to trespass. Especially to spend hours our there hunting.

We just got new neighbors. There is no house on the parcel yet. First thing we did is talk about where we think the boundary line is and if we need a survey. We might as I am planning on putting up a fence line along that property line.

In any event how hard is it to respect someones property?

It must be awfully dam hard to respect someones property, TheMan419. The neighbor allows hunters - I have always allowed a few. The neighbor does not allow any type of motorized vehicle on his property. The hunters have been using my gate to access his property with pickups & ATVs. This presents several problems - many who are not "authorized" have come thru my gate and hunted the neighbors property. Many who ARE authorized drive thru my gate and drive their pickups/ATVs on the neighbors property. They all drive their pickups/ATVs thru my gate and drive on his property. My gate has alway had a large No Trespassing sign on it. Then to top it all off, the hunters will cause damage to my driveway and the neighbors property with their vehicles.

This year I gave up trying to control this situation. Starting a week before hunting season and until it ends, there is a large chain & lock on my gate.

It really chaps my hide that I have to lock my gate to control this situation. I can see by the "burn-out" marks outside the gate that it must irritate many who would prefer to tresspass. Both me & the neighbor have talked to the hunters and asked that they not use my gate to access his property with their vehicles - it has done absolutely no good. This is one of the reasons so much land is being closed to hunting.

Life goes on.........

There is a reason that so much property is posted "No Hunting". Neighbor family has run a hunt club for years. They got concerned about the guys shooting and drinking on the property. He told them no alcohol. Over half the members quit, but he is good with that, much less stress!

There are some really senseless hunters out there who ruining for the many. I once, as a kid about 12, was riding in the truck with a guy that was hunting with a group of us fox hunting. We would drive a square and as the fox came out the other side of the square a couple guys would shoot it... same as deer. This yahoo pulled right into someone's drive all the way up to the house and was in their drive standing up on the sideboard of his truck with binoculars trying to spot a fox. I then see the door of the house open up and a girl I went to school with lived there and was like WTH .. are you in my drive and what are you doing..

I was so embarrased... my dad never hunted with that bonehead after that.

There is lots of truth about the saying "Good fences make good neighbors". The first thing we did after having our new property surveyed was put up new fences on the property line. The line was off by over 75 feet on the SW corner.
I didn't have a gate put up at my driveway on the roadway yet but I had built a shale ATV drive between my house and brother in laws house where it crosses the dam of our shared pond. Well one day a salesman turns in my drive, drives the trail across our dam over to my BIL's house with even stopping at my house.
I caught him on the way out and informed him that the 10 foot wide trail was not a public road and he was not to come back. A few days later I bought all the material to build 2 ea 10 foot wide double gates to close off my drive. I later put on a Mighty Mule gate opener so we didn't have to get out and open and close it each time we left home. Now the entire 42 acres is fenced with net wire topped with barbed wire except for the road frontage in front of my house which has a 4 foot chain link fence. We no longer have a problem with 4 legged or 2 legged trespassers. If something gets into our property, it flies in.

I guess I need to clarify that deer can still jump the fence and come in. I had one wander up to the edge of my house before it turned tail and hoofed it back to the back pasture a few days ago. This is rare now since we have 2 GS dogs roaming the property. Prior to the dogs, we had several deer living in thickets on the property. One doe had her fawn there every year for the first 3 years.

Guess they took the hint, didn't show up today.

So question for the group, I want to know what you think of this:

Today, my wife talked to the neighbors and they said that after the early Oct. incident, they talked to the TSHs and told them to stay off my property (like that was going to do any good). The interesting thing they said was that the TSH said that after this year, they wouldn't be back next year.

Note that this was said at least two weeks before I implemented my Anti-Trespassing Policy (which started just yesterday).

So what conclusion(s) do you draw from that statement (underlined above)? After I hear from some people here, I'll tell you what I conclusions I draw from it.

And thanks for the supportive comments, I appreciate it!

My conclusion would be that you affectively altered the TSH's hunting location decision by not allowing them to be on your land. They only came all that way to hunt your land but used the other property as a front and a parking spot. Good riddens to them and good job!
